I UNFORTUNATELY CAN SAY I KNOW MORE ABOUT MRSA THAN I EVER WANTED TO KNOW. MY FIANCE' IS 53 YRS OLD AND NOW USES A WALKER AND WHEELCHAIR. HE ALSO SUFFERS KIDNEY FAILURE THANKS TO MRSA. I WATCHED HIM SUFFER SEVERAL MONTHS WITH MULTIPLE ORGAN FAILURE WHILE ON LIFE SUPPORT. WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OBTAIN LEGAL REPRESENTATION AND THE HOSPITAL DENIES ANY LIABILITY. WE HAVE EVEN WRITTEN OUR CONGRESSMAN. MY FIANCE' IS NOW DISABLED. WHAT ARE OUR OPTIONS AT THIS POINT? ANY ADVICE???

Dolores

Every case yuo see or read about is so sad. Try and find a lawyer who will do a NO WIN- NO FEE deal with you to fight the case. You have to be prepared to be 'SKINNED' unless you can find one who beleives in the MRSA cause. Find o Lawyer who life has been effected by MRSA. Search the Net.
Don't give up.

I hope you have kept detailed records. When you speak to anyone make clear notes. Try and find other people who have been affected by MRSA in that hospital.

You will have a hard fight as the Medics close ranks. Speak to the media, Tv companies, radio Papers until someone will listen.

Get strength from what you have, be positive, keep a sense of humour for your fiance. Have fun while you go into battle to beat the system!

Good luck

MY FATHER WENT IN THE HOSPITAL WITH A STROKE. HE WAS IN THE HOSPITAL 1 MONTH AND THEN PLACED IN A NURSING HOME IN LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY (GEORGE TOWN MANNOR)FOR REABILITATION, WHERE HE CONTACTED MRSA IN 2 BLISTERS. ONE ON EACH FOOT. THEY WERE ACTUALLY BLISTERS FROM STOCKINGS THAT HE HAD WORN IN THE HOSPITAL. THE HOSPITAL SAID THAT DAD HAD ON SET DIABETIES. AND WERE GIVING HIM MILD TO NO INSULIN SHOTS HE HAD TO BE PLACED ON THE FEEDING TUBE UNTIL HE COULD EAT PROPERLY. THE DOCTOR SAID THAT ONCE HE WAS EATING AGAIN HE WOULD PROBALLY NOT EVEN NEED INSULIN. WITHIN 10 DAYS MY DADS FEET LOOKED LIKED THEY WERE ROTTING AWAY AND THE NURSING HOME TOLD US IT WAS HIS DIABETIES. MY FATHER LOST BOTH LEGS DUE TO THE MRSA. HIS DOCTORS SAID THAT THE MRSA WOULD SPREAD IF WE DID NOT REMOVE HIS LEGS ABOVE THE KNEE BECAUSE MRSA LOVES SOCKET AREAS. THE MRSA HAD ALREADY SPREAD AND THEY KNEW IT. ONCE YOU GET IT AND YOUR SYSTEM IS COMPROMISED IN ANY WAY THIS DISEASE WILL KILL YOU. HE WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 13 MONTHS. WE WATCHED HIM GO THROUGH A LIVING HELL. HE WAS GIVEN VECTAMICIN THE ENTIRE 13 MONTHS. HE WAS ABLE TO TALK NORMAL AGAIN, AND COULD EVEN SWALLOW AGAIN. THIS INFECTION KILLED MY FATHER 2 WEEKS AGO. MY FATHER WAS A FIGHTER. HE GAVE IT ALL HE HAD. IF IT HAD ONLY BEEN THE STROKE THAT HE HAD TO COMBAT, I KNOW HE WOULD BE HERE TODAY. I DON'T WANT ANY FAMILY TO GO THROUGH WHAT MY FATHER WENT THROUGH. IT WAS HORRIFING WATCHING SOMEONE YOU LOVE SUFFER SO LONG AND COULD DO NOTHING TO HELP. WE DID TRY TO GET A LAWYER BUT HE SAID THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE. I WANT TO DO SOMETHING, SO THAT PEOPLE KNOW THE DANGERS OF WHAT THEM AND THERE LOVED ONES CAN CATCH WHEN THEY GO FOR SURGERY OR A ROUTINE VISIT TO THE DOCTOR. KENTUCKY IS RAMPID WITH THIS MRSA VIRUS. AND AFTER CHECKING AROUND I HAVE DISCOVERED IT IS NATION WIDE. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE.

There are many sites to review information on MRSA and VRSA but I do not have any on hand right now.

MRSA is Methicillen Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. Methicillen is the central "bacteria fighter" in penicillin and most of its related components. Because all antibiotics containing Methicillen are not very effective against MRSA, other antibiotics are used.

Vancomicyn is an antibiotic that does not integrate the Methicillen chain. Therefore it is effective at killing MRSA. However, now there are bacteria that are resistant to Vancomicyn. One strand of these bacteria is VRSA.

My grandmother is currently in the hospital dying from mrsa. The hospital never even bothered to test her for it until she went into septic shock. They said "well she didn't display any of the classic symptoms," of course not, we have told the docs over and over the women in our family never do, we are all atypical cases, you have to look outside the box with us! she has multiple organ failure and is non responsive. my mother is now having to decide whether or not to "pull the plug"

My husband has had MRSA for the last five years and this last summer had to have his right hip removed. ( his left hip got infected after hip replacement surgary and the infection went into his right hip last year) We can't find a lawyer to take our case even though the whole world is talking about this MRSA now. Don't you find it frusterating to hear people talk like this is a NEW superbug! PLEASE! It's been around long enough to disable or kill thousands of people. I really hoped that the media coverage would put some serious preasure on the health care system to take responsibility for their neglegence. It's not looking like they are though. I will name the hospital where my husband and MANY others were infected. Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville AR.
