About the Clindamycin D-test

I am a microbiology student. I hope there are some microbiologist here who can answer my questions. Its about the D-test.
We know that D-test is looking at the inducible clindamycin-resistance under the effect of erythromycin. But I encountered different patterns in the disc diffusion test.

1) The presence of D-zone with reduced MRSA growth.

2) A double-ring: normal growth -> reduced growth -> normal growth -> reduced growth towards the Clindamycin disc.

3) A clear circular zone within a D-zone.

4) Growth of MRSA around the CC disc within the outer clear zone.

Thanks!

My 29 month old daughter has MRSA and now has had it for going on 6 months. Every time i take her to the doctor they give me the same meds and it goes away for maybe a day but only after two weeks of using meds. Then she gets it again, right now she has 3 of them and its to the point she isn't eating well, having trouble sleeping because they are all on her thighs and bottom. She tells me it hurts all the time and i want to relieve her of the pain, but no doc seems to know exactly what to do. She's so tiny and doesn't understand why i can't get rid of it. If anyone has tips or a good source who can tell me what to do please let me know. I'm tired of her hurting. And i just had a newborn a month ago and im sooo scared she's gonna get it to. Please Help.
Thank You

very slight fever the highest it's been was 102.5 and that was only once. In the
morning when I wake I'm at 97-99 usually at night it starts to spike. Iv had the
fevers for about 3 days, but again I feel completely fine and have no lesions or
pain anywhere. Do I need to see a doctor or go to the ER?

I am now under the care of an ID doctor; the last culture I received came back inconclusive largely due to the exuberant amount of antibiotics I had been taking including the IV treatment in the hospital of Vancomycin. I have now started the next phase of treatments including the antibacterial wash recommended by Ladyk, probiotics in addition the ID doc prescribed Bactroban and Zyvox. I have read up on these two antibiotics, though would like anyoneís opinion who may have used these treatments and what the outcome was. Has anyone encountered any adverse effects while utilizing these treatments either during the course of administration or after effects once completing the cycle? The Zyvox is to be administered twice daily 600mg for two weeks at which time a meet with the ID doc again, the Bactroban is to be used twice daily in nose and on current and forming lesions. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

It has been a year since MRSA came into our family. First our teenager, then me, then Hubby. We have learned a ton from this site!

We adults have regained our health without antibiotics, using the suggestions here. We now maintain with occasional topical treatments and extra supplements if needed.

Our son is back on antibiotics for the first time since last fall, after a relapse following dental surgery. Because of the time he had to rebuild his immune system during nine months without antibiotics, he is having no issues with the Bactrim, and it appears to be working.

The PA gave us a key piece of advice which I think is worth sharing here. She told our son that hot compresses and baths are the most important thing, 'more important than medication', because the bloodstream, carrying medication [or whatever you take internally] must reach the infection site in order to work.

The temptation is to quit with the compresses and baths when the initial wound or infection se... read more

Have not been hospitalized since March. Diabetic since 1999. On injected insulin since April.

On 9/28/06, had a bout of gout in conjunction with high fever and chills. Right foot sensitive to touch, so kept it elevated and without covering. Next day noticed what appeared to be a spider bite about 5 inches above my ankle. Remember killing a spider while in bed with gout.

On 9/30/06, noticed red inflamed area greatly expanded from ankle to near knee. Area puffy, perhaps 1-1/2 times larger, with special tenderness/pain at spider bite location. Painful to walk. Saw MD on 10/2, initial diagnosis of either Staphyloccocus or Streptococcus infection, culture taken, was given Keflaxin and Bacitrin prescription. Had it filled same day and started immediately on 3 Keflaxin and 2 Bacitrin daily. Told to come back 10/4 for follow-up.

Received diagnosis 10/4 of MRSA. Wound had formed crater by then about 4 cm across, and had started weaping. Assumed pus was not good for area, and with do... read more

I had 2 mrsa boils, one healed quickly and the other took 30+ days. But I am Diabetic II, and the 1st symptoms I had were flu type with trouble walking with hips, 6 days of flu then vomiting which I never do, so I went to doc and he prescribed SMT? antibiotics for the 2 boils. Now my sores healed but I feel so bad and hurt. My hips and legs in constant pain, I get pressure in them like my blood vessels want to explode, then stabbing sharp pain above ankle. I have very weak immune system and I need help. Money is a problem so I cannot consult my doc without it. He does nothing over phone. Please email me at gingerballew@hotmail.com if you know a solution for me. Thx.

Here is a great antidotal story that is true about a cure of MRSA from another forum printed here with permission. There is a chance that photos and diary of treatment will become available. I will let you know where and when.

Hi Arrow,

Interesting that you would bring this issue up right now (mrsa). I had plannedon posting here, regarding this issue, in the near future. I recently
connected with a woman who had mrsa from her ankles to her neck.
Serious, serious stuff. She was breathless, and nervous and eyes were
darty. Angry red rash all over. Horrible itching, legs would swell and
then crack and ooze. On and on.

She got on high dose garlic. Garlic cloves, crushed and washed down
with water, like a pill. about 4 cloves every few hours, doing maybe 25
a day. Between garlic doses she did about 3000 mgs of vitamin C. In
about a month the rash has totally disappeared from her upper body and
is isolated now to one lower leg: ankle, shin and some calf.

My daughter turned 2 today and we had to take her to her Dr. She has had a what i thought was a diaper rash for over a week. We had changed diaper brands do to cost, so i thought at first it was a reaction to the new cheaper brand. The bumps got worse and yesterday looked like pimples with white heads in the center(only on her covered area of her buttocks)Anyway, so her Dr. said it looks like MRSA and gave us SULFAMETH-TRIMETH and RIFAMPIN.All i know is that after finding this web site im REALLY WORRIED and SCARED because he made it sound like if you take the meds it will go away!! But all you guys have said otherwise...Should i ask for a second oppinion? and should i worry about getting it and others getting it from my house too? And most importantly,is my daughter going to get worse?? SHES ONLY 2

Hello everyone,I went to the dr's office on Thur with a sore on my wrist,it looked like a small pimple with a white head, with red all around it and a little bit of swelling. He said he wanted to swab it,he cut it and bandaged it and told me it was a staph infection but not to be surprised if it was MRSA.My mother in law died a year ago after she had surgery on her heart, they had knicked her liver and from there the infection started. My wrist cleared up almost compleatly wih the cephalexin and sulfameth/trimethoprim in two days.Im really worried,my husband has rhumitoid arthritis and now has pnomonia. My results should be in tomarrow,im really worried,at this point my daughter in law wont let me near the baby EVER if this result is positive after some of the things she has read.well.thanks for listening

Colonization sites- more than one?

I have read earlier posts regarding colonization sites. I tested positive for MRSA in my
nose and I am treating with bactroban, is it possible to have more than one colony?

I have had sores/lesions in other places (ears, armpits and groin area) does that mean
I might have a MRSA colony there as well?

Does it make since to just treat one area and not the others?

Thank you to all who have answered my questions and for the great information on
this site. Obviously I am new at this.

I would love your help- newly diagnosed with MRSA colony and the Dr. was very
casual and vague. I have had seven very painful ear infections (cellulitis), two in my
nose, two folliculitis outbreaks on my arm and a very large boil that needed to be
drained in an area Iíd rather not discuss plus terrible bouts of vertigo. Finally, my ENT
told me to have a culture done with a dermatologist. Came back positive for MRSA.
The dermatologist told me to use bactroban ointment in my nose (where the culture
was taken) three times a day to kill the colony. I asked him if I should go see an ID
specialist and he told me I didnít need to, they would just tell me to do the same. But
I was told by my sonís dermatologist to defiantly go to an ID doctor because it is
probably in my sinuses and would need further treatment.

I know by reading your posts that so many of you have had a much more serious
infection, so I donít mean to complain but I feel awful. I have for years... read more

Breastfeeding with MRSA

I've been breastfeeding my baby, she's 5 months old, and just within the last week I have had an outbreak of MRSA. They are currently on the lower half of my abdomen, I've had these in the past but they were normally on my bottom. I'm making sure to keep them covered with bandaids, and I also put a towel over my belly while feeding her. This is the first outbreak since the delivery of my little girl. I'm just wondering if I should continue to breastfeed or what I should do? I can't even imagine her having to go through this painful situation. She has been running a low grade temp on and half for a few weeks, nothing over 100. It's usually around 99.5 but then again it is sometimes normal. I was assuming this was from teething although she hasn't gotten any teeth yet. Could me having this infection and me breastfeeding be causing her to carry a low grade temp? Any advice is much appreciated. I feel so helpless.

I have read that the following are helpful:

Garlic high in Allicin (at least 6000 mcg/tablet)
Curcumim
Oil of oregino
Essencial greens
Pau Dí Arco
Asparagus extract

Anything else I should consider?

Thank you- and thank god for this site, I have not been able to talk with ANYONE

I am battling MRSA for the 13th time in two years and have tried every means of antibiotic therapy including IV Vanco and it keeps coming back. I am considering applying for SSDI for this infection but I don't see it listed on SSA list of medical conditions. I also suffer from arthritis, fibro, migraines and depression, which of course has gotten worse since having MRSA and loss of social contact with family and friends. Any feedback appreciated

environmental control?

Just looking for opinions on environmental control. Currently, I wipe all surfaces in my house weekly with Clorox Disinfecting Wipes (including cabinet handles, phones, remotes, light switches, etc.). Iíve been doing this for 7 months. I wash all bedding weekly with bleach (everything is a ďprettyĒ light green, yellow color!), I use towels only once (and then wash with bleach), and all clothes that I donít wear in public are bleached. I probably go through a jug of bleach a week, and I now buy Clorox Wipes in the 105 wipes canister! I no longer wash with Hibiclens in the shower, although I wash my hands with it before going to school in the morning, and again when Iím home for lunch.
Iím driving everybody crazy with all my cleaning. I read somewhere that I can be creating superbugs in my home because of Clorox overuse. Am I doing too much cleaning? Should I cut back to every other week? Should I rotate products? Where is the happy medium? What do you all do? Thank you v... read more
