MRSA in mastoid / ear

I have been on antiobiotics for about 9 months. I just finished 30 days on Bactrim DS with drainage returning prior to finishing the Rx. This infection started with an emergency room stay, after a car accident, over 1.5 years ago. Now the ENT wants me to consult with another physician for possible Mastoidectomy. Shouldn't the next step be to visit an Infectious Disease physician to consider a more assertive focus on the MRSA? This is starting to really take a toll on me. It may not be related, but it seems that any cuts or bruises are taking much longer to heal? Any suggestions?

MRSA on Kids

Hello, everyone. I have a seven-year-old boy, John, and a 5 year-old girl, Hannah, both of whom keep getting the little MRSA "pimples" around their mouths- on the chin, upper lip...sometimes on their nose. My son had it badly on his ear this summer- it even started spreading to a lymph gland and he had to go on antibiotics. Since then, both children have been battling off these little "bumps."

I keep the affected areas treated with StaphASeptic 3 x /day and have started giving them Manuka honey 3 X /day, as well as Vitamin C. If I fail to keep the Staph-A on the affected areas, they will usually sprout a new bump within a few days, or a rash. I immediately put the ointment back on and it stops.

I know this is MRSA because my husband has also been battling it for the past 2 years, and we have to keep his in check with Bactroban and 2.5 pH water (used in Japanese hospitals- yes, it really DOES treat MRSA wounds successfully!).

My concern is understandably increasing. I ... read more

I am posting a question regarding getting mrsa for the third time in two years.
I think the first two times were from a hospital setting post surgery.
In July I had a colonoscopy, but I had three clears for mrsa by August 23

Last week OCTOBER, I was told I have it again- this nasal mrsa.

I also read waxing can be a culprit and wondered if anyone had any ideas on this. The CDC has a page on their website and a study in Netherlands I googled also states waxing can be a culprit.

I havw PIDD (inherited) which is an immune disease (subject to sinus to bronchitis to pneumonia ) and am treated weekly with gammaglobulin (plasma.
ANy ideas appreciated.

I'm a fifteen year old girl and terribly worried. I was diagnosed with MRSA October 12th. I have 2 wounds, one on my groin region and one on the back of my thigh. On the 12th, I was prescribed Bactrim for ten days and Mupirocin. I took this Bactrim twice daily and applied the Mupirocin twice daily as well. On the ninth day, I woke up covered in a head to toe rash and went straight to Doctor's Care. They told me to stop taking the Bactrim immediately and then if the rash wasn't gone in four days then to come back. Well, that night I started having terrible itching which caused me to not be able to sleep. I went straight to the ER. They gave me a shot of Vistaril and I am now taking Prednisone daily along with Atarax one to two times daily for the itching. As of now, my two MRSA spots look a good bit better, but not completely. I'm still itching a bit as well. I'm incredibly worried about those spots scarring or more MRSA spots coming back in the future. Is the fact that I didn't comp... read more

Howdy Peeps:

Whereas I try to check in every few weeks, its been crazy around here. My husband of 42 years had a heart attack back in December of last year and is having more problems. He had to be admitted to Johns Hopkins last week for stent work and has to go back this Thursday for even more.

I always hate having to go to any hospital due to my own horrendous experience, and having my husband have intrusive heart surgery involving even more stents is really hard for me to take. I had so many bad experiences with artificial implants it scares me to death know how much hardware he now has in his artery. He has 8 stents in one artery and a bypass. He also has a pacemaker.

The fear of MRSA is so strong that I have to check my emotions at the door. I know he has to have the stents done or else its another bypass.

I don't think we ever get over the emotional scars from MRSA. We may be able to push it back in our minds, but its always there.

Having some trouble finding info regarding exiting us to usvi (us customs). Will they ask about MRSA and will I be required to present a "clean bill of health"? Just trying to make sure nothing gets in the way of my "recovery vacation". Have been off Cubicin for two weeks and no new symptoms.

excuse that you can return to work. So now I am sitting at home, due to
this outlandish situation due to another emloyee running away with this

I just celebrated 4 years free from MRSA!!! I have had no outbreaks since Feb. 14th
(what a Valentine's Day that was!) 2006. Please see my posts under Nyker. I still use
hibclense on a regular basis, and I'm vigilant about hand washing, etc. I know it can
come back, and I believe my vigilance has contributed to my success. I thank God for the
wonderful infectious disease specialist I visited about my second bout with mrsa.

I wish you all the best---and do not despair. Also, do lots of research. I just know
what has worked for me. Ignore the naysayers and know-it-alls---or at least ask them
how long have they been successful in warding off MRSA. All the best!!!

I had two bad bouts of MRSA 6 years ago. Boils, 2 hospitalization, lancing of the boils, Vncomyacin IV's, and other very strong antiobiotics. My doctor gave me an RX for Bactroban (Municipron) Ointment and told me to swab my nose every few days. I have been swabbing about 2 to 3 times a week, and had not had an outbreak in 6 years, I have never tried garlic, or any herbs as discussed on this forum. The Bactroban ointment seems to have worked for me.

HELP!!!!I Had a baby C-sec and 2 weeks later found out I have mrsa in my c-sec. I've been on antibiotics for a month now and they're putting me on another one for two more weeks. There's no way this can be good for me in the long run. I was always told that to much antibiotics is bad for you. I don't know much about mrsa but I've heard that I can treat this with natural medications...can anyone help with this? Will I always have this? I there a Dr. out there that can help me with this? I have no boils or bumps, just a small hole.

My brother in law was in a car accident on August 30th. He had to have surgery for a shattered right ankle and he had deep lacerations on his right hand and left shin which required sutures. Two weeks after being released from the hospital we took him to the ER with a slightly elevated temperature and pain in his right ankle. When his cast was removed his ankle was very swollen and infected. They did a procedure to irrigate the wound and remove dead tissue. All other sutures where checked and his left leg also had started to get infected. When the culture results came back he was told that he has HA MRSA in both wound sites. He stayed in the hospital with repeated procedures to irrigate until there were no visible signs of infection. He was sent home last Tuesday with a PICC line for twice daily 1500 mg vancomycin. He is also going to physical therapy 5 days a week for whirlpool therapy on his right ankle. Every time he goes the check for signs of infection. Today the wound had puss... read more

My 13 year old daughter had MRSA osteomyelitis in right femur last Sept.--seven surgeries, clinical failure on vancomycin. After dapto + doxycyclin she had been MRSA-free (supposedly) until August of this year. She wound up with a MRSA skin infection on same knee--was treated with Bactrim and decolonized with hibiclens. She had concurrent knee pain after starting xc running in August. Though x-rays have shown continual improvement her 1st MRI in one year showed edema in marrow. Doc wants to repeat in one month and consider surgery. Would like to get a second ortho opinion. They are also considering an immunologist. Any suggestions in Twin Cities or Mayo (MN)? Thank you.

We've been dealing with this for a year and a half now. Her first boil was 3-17-09 (age 2) in her diaper area. It had a head on it and when it burst she had streaks/tenticles running through it. I assume that means it was now in her blood. It evidently started with some eczema on her behind, she itched the dry skin with her dirty fingernails and boil #1 appeared. We took her in right away, they tested it and it came back positive - sensitive to Bactrim.

It was nearly impossible to get the Bactrim liquid in her, it tastes HORRIBLE and nothing masks it. We ended up using cake icing until she was old enough to swallow 1/2 a pill - and thank heavens for that!

Anyway, she'd get these boils every couple of months but the break outs became less and less frequent. When they'd come, we'd get more Bactrim and start the hibiclen washes and nasal ointment. They also kept getting smaller and smaller until one day it'd been 6 months w/o a boil. We thought we were done but she g... read more

I am on my third round of MRSA. Actually, only the 2nd round was confirmed through a culture. In Sept 08 I had an "ingrown hair" in my armpit that was treated with antibiotics. In Sept 09 was the confirmed MRSA in same armpit, drained and treated with antibiotics. Now, in Sept 10, I have a lesion on my butt. The nurse practitioner said it was too firm to lance and did not culture. Prescribed Bactrim for 10 days and Muciprin for 5 days. The Muciprin is now over and I have four days left of antibiotics. The lesion is getting smaller, less painful, and only loses about 3 droplets a day for two days now. This morning, I blacked out in the shower and had chills for about an hour afterwards, no temperature. Got into the doctor's office and saw a different practitioner (actual doctor this time). She noted that I had somewhat low blood pressure (110/70) and a 99 temp. She said I "must have caught one of the many viruses going around, and did I need a dr's note for work?". I aske... read more

Subject: Allibiotic CF used as immune support - stabilized allicin in supplement - as it applies to age specific use in children.

Caution for the sake of one’s health and well being is always important to me. Therefore, when considering using Allibiotic CF for children suffering MRSA infections, I could find no age appropriate guidelines in which to advise inquiring parents… so I contacted manufacturer NOW.

Response from NOW Science & Nutrition Group:

[“We do not have an age specific dosing as a couple variables come into play. While children who can swallow the capsule under 75lb might use 1/2 the labeled dose or 1 capsule per day, for some the full 2 caps per day may be desired and is generally safe.

Side effects to watch for can be gastric upset in kids.

Thank you for your inquiry,

Hope this helps.

Today was the big day!- IV catheter was removed. Last week the hardware was finally removed from my foot, sterilized and on the way to the jeweler to be made into a bracelet to remind me how lucky I was to get through this and after 5 surgeries, medications and other expenses, it will be the only jewelry I ever own worth over 50,000.00!When I reviewed the IDD's hospital summary, it stated that cultures showed MRSA and carinii bacterium. I was aware of the MRSA but not the other and will of course ask the IDD about that when I see her next week but as usual I am impatient and wanted to see if anyone can shed some light on that in the interim. I know I have to stay "watchful" but can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. I remain optimistic that the light isn't a train! Thanks for any answers on the carinii and hope everyone is having a good day.Namaste and be well...Terri

I have been without a Mrsa flare up now for over a year. I always got infections on skin.I had over 2 years of antibiotic treatment with the last being Cubicin and zyvox, which was the only thing left that worked.Since then I have had reacurring yeast infections that seem to keep coming back, yes I take allicin, and a whole bunch of other things probiotics, oregano oil,to many to mention.I also was diagnosed with IBS they said was most likely caused by antibiotic use. I have been treated with Fluconazole for the yeast and within a few weeks it came back,so now I started Caprylic acid a natural remedy and now I have been getting cramps in stomach and beginning to wonder if infection is throughout intestines and or could I have mrsa inside me? I don't think I can deal with anything more and I was ordered 3 weeks ago to get ultrasound of pelvic and stomach and just put it off due to the mounting Dr Bills and loss of job.I had a colonoscopy that showed nothing last year hense the IBS diagno... read more

Started by Arrow Posted: November 18, 2007 at 21:30 A while back I posted a testimonial about a woman who cured her MRSA eating 3 to 4 cloves of garlic every 3 to 4 hours day and night, for one month. well, almost cured. Like 80 percent gone or something like that at the writing. She did not use antibiotics.

I am no garlic expert but this sounded wonderful to me. Aside from social implications I thought it might be a viable idea.

Have you ever seen the garlic stuffed olives in the supermarket? We eat them all the time.

A couple of months ago when all the olives were gone I peeled several garlic bulbs worth of cloves and refilled the jar and stuck them in the back of the fridge and as usual, forgot about them.

My husband found them yesterday and put some on our dinner plate. They were great, and the garlic odor not extreme and they were quite palatable.

So I am trying to compare garlic cloves to the {edited out} other garlic capsule products. Would soaking them in a... read more
