I awakened on a Thursday morning October5, 2017 with a noticeable low back
pain on the right side of my spine, I am 51 yrs old and in fairly good health. The
next day I went to work and pain became increasingly worse by the end of my
workday as I was screaming with any movement. I drove straight to Urgent Care
Facility and was treated for pulled muscles in my back, given steroid and anti-
inflammatory shot and sent home with muscle relaxers, pain meds and anti-
inflammatory drug. The next day it was not much better and by the evening on the
3rd day was unable to sit upright to travel by car to the ER. My fiancé called an
ambulance and my fever spiked to 103 degrees. Thankfully the ER doctor on duty
felt the need to do blood cultures after MRI showed infection in muscles up and
down the right side of my spine. I was positive for MRSA in my blood stream with
Sepsis. The doctor said I was a very sick lady.I was in the hospital for 9 days and
treated by infectious... read more

Nearing 4 years since hospitalized for MRSA with IV antibiotics of many kinds. Since then, I have never been the same (like many of you) with immune system shot and crushing symptoms like Myalgic Encephalomilitis (AKA Chronic fatige Immune dysfunction syndrome). Still batteling hard.

I have read studies that show that MRSA and MSSA can hyjack immune system turning it against itself and allowing the bacteria to survive much easier. This effect can be long term. ALso the antibiotics affect negatively our immune systems as well and that can also be permanent. Lastly the antibiotics cause gut dysbiosis destroying our healthy beneficial bacteria in our GI tract execerbating our issues long term. I am considering Fecal microbiota transplant. I have equipment at home to create triple encapsulated probiotics from a healthy stool donor. I am talking about using a centrifuge and more to ensure proper delivery into my gut. I have been researching this for nearly 1.5 years. ... read more

I have CA-MRSA that has been treated with bactrim/rifampin/muciporin as well as one treatment of an IV of something (honestly, I was too upset and in too much pain in the ER to even care what it was..but I am trying to find out now)....anyway, my blood pressure was off the charts when I first went to the doctor (200/110) and as I have gotten better (which I say loosely since I know that things can change quickly) it has gotten lower (140/90---still high but I am still on meds and not quite 100%). Has anyone else had high blood pressure associated with their MRSA outbreak? I know BP can be influenced by many things (needless to say that I have been very stressed out, in lots of pain and medication can impact BP) but my doctor is talking of BP meds (though agrees that we should wait and see considering that it has been dropping so much over the past week). I am willing to deal with high blood pressure but I don't want to miss something (like MRSA effecting the heart). My BP wasn't... read more

I've read that around 50% of people who get MRSA have it come back
many times over. Those are the stories I read most about on the
internet.

Does anyone on here know someone who had it once and it hasnt come
back (yet?).

My wife is a nurse in a major hospital. She was told she has MRSA after surgery to open her sinuses. She has also had lung disease in the past. She washes her sinuses out twice a day with a pump and saline water. Now all the time she has a really bad taste in her mouth. It is very bad with a sweet taste. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS BAD TASTE IN THEIR MOUTH?
The Sunday after Christmas I took her into the emergency room. She had an outbreak on the end of one of her fingers. She was given an IV antibiotic. They said this was for all other staff infections but not for MRSA. She was told to watch her finger. If it didn’t get better it was MRSA. Two doctors and two nurses worked with her. Not one of them used precautions. We informed them at the start that she had MRSA.
The hospitals in the US are very lax with this bug. There are other countries that now screen every person for MRSA before they are included in the general population.
My hart goes out to everyone who has to deal with thi... read more

I was diagnosed with MRSA about a year and a half ago. I contracted it while having a simple hernia surgery. I started having drainage from the surgery site and ended up in the emergency room. The docotors told us if we would have waited 24hrs later I would have died. I was in the hospital for 10dys.I was put on IV's and had two diffrent antibiotics pumped through me every 1/2 hour. I had to go in and have the wound packed until it healed from the inside out.The MRSA erupted inside and out leaving a great deal of damage. I now have an entrapped nerve as well. I am always tired, have no stamina, joint pain, headaches and feel horrible all the time. I have never had health problems before. The surgery site for the hernia had a mesh put in and that has never been removed. I am wondering if I should be concerned about this? I am the mother of two teenage kids and a 4yr old. I feel terrible because I have been so sick. I am not the mom I used to be. I have taken FMLA from work and do not kn... read more

I went to the heart hospital and had five bypasses at the same time in the coronary arteries of my heart. They let me go home in five days. I began throwing up this black bile, and was sent back to the same hospital. The doctor said the black bnile was old blood, so they had to take my sternum out because the doctor said the infection had
eaten up and rotted the sternum. Then they told me I had mrsa. I was in the hospital for a month, and then on IV's for the last three weeks. The blood tests have been negative for mrsa. Can I sue for all I went through.

My MRSA boils keep coming back in different places.
This time it is in my hairline on my face above my ear and to the left of my eyebrow. My left eye is really swollen and down the ear and into the neck area.
I've been out of work since July and do not have any insurance or a doctor. So, I don't have enough $$ or time to put up with the Dr.s that don't believe me, and only cause mutation before they culture, and the anti-biotics they perscribe don't work anyway,(Sound familiear?)
so I started using the Oregeno Oil that I had from Young Living Essential Oils on the top of the really swollen places. The actual ulcer has exploded and is draining slowly, and I found 2 Cipro that I took. So, what now? I'm sure it is being active in m,y sinusis and nose?
Summer of 2004, I was hopitalized and almost lost my hand, and had a pic with IV antibiotics for 2 weeks after release. It was paid for with my insurance from my work... read more

I contracted I believe MRSA from my employer The state of KY/I have lupus and took a demotion due to medical reasons to get away from the public. Instead they put me at the Intake Desk with all Clients from the city of Louisville, needless to say I caught everything. That is when the trouble started I had a flare with my lupus which can include lesions/they got infected an bingo positive for Mrsa the med's that my former primary care doctor put me on made me terribly sick. I told and told him to no avail. Now, about 1 year later I am back at square one getting ready to go back to the Er. Oh, did I mention I have had a UTI for over one year to off and on due to the antibiotics(which caused me to have a yeast infection, diflucan did no good). I will refuse those med's I would rather die! I don't want to be bloated, gain weight, vomit, have nausea , itch , have diarrhea, and other problems. My skin is messed up enough with lupus the Mrsa doesn't help and I am so depressed. Ideas any on... read more

KILL THE CARRIER

My husband and I have been fighting MRSA for almost a year now. Same as
everyone else on here... Hospitalized, lanced, antibiotics, creams, wash, etc...
Until, finally my doctor said "You have to kill the carrier and it is usually in the
nose". He have us Bactroban for the nose. We have been using it every other night
for months and it has worked! There has been NO outbreaks for either of us. I do
not know why many doctors, and even the ID doctor did not do this 6 months ago.
We have both been on so many courses of antibiotics it's crazy.
We are both on a great probiotic and I take Oregano three times a day. Long story
short... All of you need to kill the carrier and get the Bactroban nasal treatment.
This is a terrible infection and my heart goes out to all of you. We have been there.

My dear son will be 3 in a month. In march of 2010 (age 1) we had
taken him to the hospital for a red swollen area on his bottom, it was
very painful so I knew it wasn't a diaper rash. After getting to the
hospital they cut it open to find it filled with pus deep under the
skin, he tested positive for MRSA. Going through this was
heartbreaking and we thought we were in the clear till last month (aug
2011) he had what looked like a zit on his tummy but he would scream
if we even tried to look at it, we suspected MRSA right away and took
him to the ER where they lanced it. Both times he was on antibiotics
for 10 days. Now only a month later he has another bout of MRSA at the
base of his penis, we had it lanced and he is now on antibiotics
again. I am devistated by having to put my baby through this and the
antibiotics taste so bad even mixing it in choc milk doesnt help so we
have to hold him down and plug his nose. I am going crazy over this, I

I had double pneumonia (not sure if MRSA caused it) and I had MRSA in my blood
and kidneys. I was treated with Vancomycin I had endocarditis and waiting open
heart surgery and had all of my teeth extracted while I was in the hospital (no
antibiotics and had dental issues and caused endocarditis) after 2 months in the
hospital and weeks of vancomycin treatments I am losing all of my hair! Has
anyone else had this issue? It seems this has turned my life upside down. I spent
my birthday on life support and lost my teeth that I never expected would happen
and losing my hair and hubby left me while I was in rehab learning to walk again!
Oh yes, MRSA also damaged my back where I had a spinal fusion a few years
ago! Please let me know if you have any advice or if you had hair loss. Thanks!

Can you get MRSA 10 years apart?

I had a boil on my buttock in 2007, which turned into MRSA. After a
lot of wound care, it was cured (so I thought).
Now, 10 years later, after an injection in my buttock, I have a boil
starting. I was going to lance it myself, however I remembered the
history of MRSA and now I'm scared to death!
Of note, I have an excellent immune system and have had zero problems
in the last 10 years. I had a doctor look at it (he did not know my
hx) and he said to leave it alone. That was 2 weeks ago and now it's
getting bigger. Should I consult a surgeon? Could it be MRSA again?

5/2016- 40 years old and healthy, fell getting out of a vehicle and broke my
humerus. 8 surgeries, 9 hospitalizations, PICC line infection and finally had my
arm replayed in November 2016. During that time I had severe widespread bone
pain, suspected it was from the IV antibiotics. February 2017 released to go back
to work. Now, October 2017, I learn my bone has not healed together, I have been
having the same type of bone pain (although not quite as bad), temperature of 99-
100 every single night, I FEEL infected. My inflammatory markers are normal.
None of my doctors- PCP, orthopedics, Infectious Disease, now rheumatology-
nobody can figure out what is happening. Just got a bone stimulator from
orthopedics. I am beginning to wonder if these aches and pains will ever go away.
I would appreciate any suggestions/words of encouragement.

Last fall I developed a huge painful lump on my buttocks under the skin. It seemed to get worse and worse. We were without water for several days and I think bacteria got into the area because I had an itchy rash already. I ended up at the doctor and they just looked at it, didn't lance it and put me on doxycycline without any cultures. I started researching immediately. Within several days, the rash had spread to the other lower buttocks area. They were both hard and painful. I ended up in the ER and told them they needed to be lanced. They lanced one side, cultured and I came back next day. They put me on clindamycin for 2 weeks and antibiotic cream. Cultures showed the bacteria to more sensitive. They ended up lancing the other side as well. 3 weeks later, the area healed well. All they said was it was staph and that it responded better to clindamycin than doxycycline.
Fast forward, @ year later, I have had problems with left side, always in the area that was lanced. I will ... read more
