Bad taste in mouth with MRSA

My wife is a nurse in a major hospital. She was told she has MRSA after surgery to open her sinuses. She has also had lung disease in the past. She washes her sinuses out twice a day with a pump and saline water. Now all the time she has a really bad taste in her mouth. It is very bad with a sweet taste. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS BAD TASTE IN THEIR MOUTH?
The Sunday after Christmas I took her into the emergency room. She had an outbreak on the end of one of her fingers. She was given an IV antibiotic. They said this was for all other staff infections but not for MRSA. She was told to watch her finger. If it didnít get better it was MRSA. Two doctors and two nurses worked with her. Not one of them used precautions. We informed them at the start that she had MRSA.
The hospitals in the US are very lax with this bug. There are other countries that now screen every person for MRSA before they are included in the general population.
My hart goes out to everyone who has to deal with thi... read more

Dry Needling - MRSA

I acquired MRSA from a Dry Needling session with a Physical Therapist. I won't go into all that I have been through - most of hit has already been shared in the Forum. I just wanted people to be aware of this procedure that is gaining popularity which is, they take a filament needle and insert it into a muscle - looking for a trigger response. Essentially it breaks the pain cycle and sends a message to the brain to release the tight muscle(s). I had been getting these sessions for 3 months...until after one session and in 24 hours an abscess was apparent at the dry needling site. I've never had any skin conditions in my entire life. 4 months later I am in the struggle. The Dry Needling procedure works...but there are risks...I am pretty sure I signed a waiver so I have no recourse. Be aware of this procedure the outcomes that could happen.

Infectious disease specialists

Many of you are recently diagnosed with MRSA and in panic mode. I totally understand, for I am a MRSA survivor myself.

I think that although many doctors recognize MRSA, few are truly trained to really address it well. The ER is not the place to go for a cure. ER's are designed to simply stabilize patients until they can get treated by their family physicians or specialists.

Infectious Disease is a relatively new specialty. It is also among the fastest growing for diseases such as MRSA, VRSA, Lyme Disease and so many more are springing up all over the place. Therefor, please understand that most GPs are NOT trained to fight MRSA. This is where you simply waste time and often create larger problems if its misdiagnosed and therefor, improperly medicated.

If you needed to have a bone set, you'd seek out an orthopedic surgeon. If you needed to have your chronic sinus infections fixed, you'd go to an ENT. Well, if you have MRSA, you need a good Infectious Disease specialist. The... read more

MRSA IN MY BLOOD LUNG AND SPINE ... Need Help

I went to the ER 3 months ago with terrible right side flank pain. I just had gotten
over phenomena and was still on mobile oxygen. The hospital admitted me and
discovered MRSA in my right lung, my bloodstream, and in my spinal bones.
They performed a procedure where they made some incisions on my right side
and send a camera in and they drained 1 liter of dark reddish black fluid from the
right lung. They scraped the thicken fluid and cleaned out my chest . I was put on
vancomycin and a few days later my chest tubes were removed. I went home
about 10 days later with a picc line and Vancomyicin every 8 hours for 6-12
weeks. I was home 8 days when the pain spread to my left side. Went back the
doctor said it has spread to my left back muscles and now I had an abbess on my
spine . He added an oral antibiotic sent me home.. It's been a few weeks now and
my pain is still increasing and spreading to the point I cannot stand up now. I
went back to the hospital but ... read more

Developing MRSA while currently on Bactrim?

I developed a boil in late July that went
from what I thought was a tiny bug bite to
rather large sore in 3 days. I didn't even
think it was a boil because it was always
open (like a cut). It tested positive for
MRSA ofcourse, and I was put on Bactrim
for 10 days (2x a day) and it seemingly
went away. In the first of September , i
developed another boil right next to the
scar from the first one. This one was also
"open" (it didn't need to come to a head )
and also went from 0-100 in 3 days. I
again tested positive for MRSA and i was
again placed on Bactrim for 10 days 2◊ a
day. As this was a more serious case, i
was also given 3 months of refills at a
maintenance dose (1◊ a day ).
Now in mid-november, i have rapidly
developed another boil in the same area.
What are the chances it is MRSA if i am
currently on bactrin, and have been for
around 2 months? I know MRSA came about by
becoming immune to regular antibiotics,
could this have possi... read more

This forum is terrifying--especially without sleep. But so is MRSA. I don't know where to start other than with a scream that may not end. My first bout with this superbugger was 3 years ago. Was hospitalized and put on Vanco. Remeber saying "no, not Vanco. Why don't we try something other than that first--so as to have some future options?" This was in a broom sized closet of ER room as the IV was slipped in. It helped none when the my overseeing MD shouted "Oh my God, what has happened to you?" as he looked at my wounds the next day in my isolation room. Not boils, just crazy sores that were phtographed for disposable posterity, come to find out (as they "don't keep those records").

Incredibly, all went well. The paranoia faded and life seemed to return to normal. What i would give now to rewind those unbeknownst to me blissful years in which I complained about mundane things that I wasted thought and immesurable precious time on I can never get back 'coz I'm here now in this A... read more

Anyone ever try serrapeptase

I first had MRSA about 5 months ago, have been on many antibiotics and still get abscesses. I am on an antibiotic again now, and I am taking serrapeptase with it. It is an enzyme that breaks down the protective biofilm that colonies of organisms live under. The theory is that if you break down this biofilm, then the antibiotics have much better access to the bacteria that they need to kill. Eventually I want to be off of antibiotics, and MRSA really worries me. But I am using the serrapeptase this time and I am wondering if anyone else has any experiences or advice about it.

My dear son will be 3 in a month. In march of 2010 (age 1) we had
taken him to the hospital for a red swollen area on his bottom, it was
very painful so I knew it wasn't a diaper rash. After getting to the
hospital they cut it open to find it filled with pus deep under the
skin, he tested positive for MRSA. Going through this was
heartbreaking and we thought we were in the clear till last month (aug
2011) he had what looked like a zit on his tummy but he would scream
if we even tried to look at it, we suspected MRSA right away and took
him to the ER where they lanced it. Both times he was on antibiotics
for 10 days. Now only a month later he has another bout of MRSA at the
base of his penis, we had it lanced and he is now on antibiotics
again. I am devistated by having to put my baby through this and the
antibiotics taste so bad even mixing it in choc milk doesnt help so we
have to hold him down and plug his nose. I am going crazy over this, I
can't keep ... read more

Rash Post MRSA Treatment

My daughter had a staph infection that turned out to be MRSA. The infection was in her blood stream as well as the infection in the skin. She received Vancomycin IV for 2+ weeks with no adverse reaction. She has been off Vancomycin for a week and has developed a rash over her body that appears to be hives. It is not a flushing of the skin but almost looks more like a heat rash but more spread out over her body. I talked to the Dr. on the phone and he told her to take Benadryl for the next 24 hours and if no improvement to come to the ER. There was no improvement so she went to the ER and was diagnosd with Red Man Syndrome. I am wondering whether this is possible as this usually occurs during administration and not a week later. Also it is not a flushing, or warmth to the skin. Is there another possibility?

Eucalyptus Oil helps me!

I have had MRSA for two years and this year has been particularly
bad with three breakouts. I try my best to not have to use
antibiotics because I don't want to compromise my immune system.
Although I used antibiotics for my frist outbreak I managed to
clear up a rather nasty boil a month ago with eucalyptus essential
oil.

I used one drop directly on the sore three times a day. It stings
a bit but nothing that made me cry out. The only adverse effect I
got from it was that it dried out the skin surrounding the sore
and it peeled off. Coconut oil helped with that, no biggie. It
cleared up in just a few days.

Unfortunately I had another sore (really painful.. I almost cry
when I bump it on something) on my cheekbone and I'm super low on
essential oil with no money to buy anymore, so I have only been
applying it once a day, but I also have mupirocin ointment 2%. I
used a homemade body scrub with coconut oil and eucalyptus bath
salt in the sh... read more

MRSA in the ear canal

My little boy is 4 years old and has MRSA for 2 years. I keep hearing all these remedies for the skin and in the bones however, we have not been lucky enough to clear up his MRSA for very long.
We have tried everything and I am starting a new regiment of agressive cleaning for the ear this week under anesthesia with an oral ear antibiotic.
Does anyone else have MRSA in the ear and if so what are you using for treatment?
My son is Clindimycin resistant and allergic to Vancomycin.
Please help if you have anything.
