i've been treating for mrsa for about a month now, i have a hole in my
leg where i have to change and pack my gauss daily. everyday its been
fine, but now, its close to the surface and when the gauss was taken
out so i could change it, it was green. i'm extremely worried about
this, i am calling my doctor first thing in the morning but i was just
wondering if anyone here knows about this, and if this is normal?

Mom mother came home from a near 3 week hospital stay caused from pheumonia, copd and mrsa in her lungs. She lives with me and my family which includes 3 kids and 2 dogs, myself and my husband. I am really freaked out about the fact that she has mrsa and does not seem to thing that it is a big deal. I am making her stay in her room for the most part and when she does come out she wears a mask and gloves. My mother is what one might call a crabbie old lady and thinks that I am out of my mind for making her do this and going to through all of the disinfecting that me and my husband are doing(alot). My mother does not cover her mouth when coughing nor does she use a tissue when sneezing. And to top it off, her hygiene is not good to say the least. I am worried that it is going to come back and I will not know until she ends up in the hospital and by that time she will have contaminated the whole house, dog, kids and me. Can anyone PLEASE help me out. I have tried to research as much as... read more

MRSA in Sinuses for 3rd time in a year

I just found this forum after finding out that I have a sinus infection that cultured positive for MRSA. This is the third time this has happened in the past 10 months. I will apologize in advance if my post is redundant in relation to others on this site. I am really not that familiar with MRSA, and after reading several posts on this site, I am becoming quite concerned that this could really blow up and really spread throughout my body. I guess I am wondering of there is anyone in the same boat I am in that would have any advice they could share with me. Here's my quick and dirty back story:
I had endoscopic sinus surgery and was having a hard time recovering - constant sinus infection. My ENT cultured me and it was returned as positive for MRSA. I was prescribed minocycline which did nothing, and finally Zyvox (pill form) which cleared up the infection. 1 month later it was back, and my ENT followed the same course of antibiotics - minocycline, rifampin, and finally zyvox... read more

I have had a mrsa infection since march 18th 2009, I had laminectomy
surgery and end up with 3 infections in surgical site, I had surgery in april
which was a few weeks later and then placed on vanco till june when I went
into kidney failure and was then put on zyvox. 3 days later I had stroke like
symptoms. I developed in march/april '09 a high heart rate rest can go
anywhere from 120- 200. The wound itself would not heal so I had to have
debriedment and b/c of the infections reherniated my discs or so I was told.
Had the surgery in jan. Of 2010 then a few days later was back with more
infection in surgical site and the drain the put in fell right out. Between
Mach of 2009 through March2010 I spent over 150 day hospitalized wheres
the last was being told I was putting this staph infection in my spine.. how
is that possible, I after that left the hospital and called and got an
appointment at the cleveland clinic and had another debridment july 1st
2010. Si... read more

In August 2009, my wife and some friends went to her grandmother’s vacation house on the Guadalupe River. Everyone wanted to float down the river, even though it wasn’t moving very fast. I was kind of disgusted by doing this, but I didn’t want to be the only one not going. As soon as we got home I developed a boil on the inside of my thigh. I went to the Doctor and they gave me some antibiotics, and it was gone.. just like that.. Last week, a year and a half later, I developed another boil. I had read that if you just let them drain on their own they will heal without antibiotics. I put Neosporin on it and kept it covered for a week. The boils started draining after about 4 days but still it got worse. It was bleeding quite a bit also. Only through a tiny hole though. I finally went to the doctor for this one and they pushed all the blood and puss out and took a sample to test. They gave me a shot of antibiotic in my butt, and gave me Doxycyline and Bactrim DS to take for 10 days tw... read more

My 8 year old is sick, covered in a mysterious rash, and has run a fever for over a week...just wondering if I should have the doc check him for MRSA/'s our story from the beginning, starting with the supposed origin of the rash:

Back in October, my younger sister came to stay with us for a week. She had had a rash for a couple of months and had not yet had it checked out by a doc. While she was here she slept in the same bed/used the same blankets as my son. About a week after she went home, she finally had her rash checked out at the Health Dept. They were not 100% sure, but told her she had scabies, prescribed a cream and left it at that. A few weeks later, my son started breaking out in a rash that proceeded to get worse over the next week. I took him to his primary care physician and she was pretty positive that is was NOT scabies, but prescribed him Pyrethrin. We applied it from head to toe, left it on for 8 hours, then washed it off and waited for the... read more

Headaches with Recurring MRSA

Hi, I'm new here. I went to the ER a few days ago because I had a very painful (underneath) sore in between my shoulder blades and that's the same spot I had my first bout with MRSA three years ago. The doctor assumed it was MRSA by observation and history, no tests, and loaded me up on antibiotics. The sore outwardly looks much improved four days later but is still very painful underneath. What I am more concerned with is this killer headache that will not go away, also a sore throat, and pain behind my eyes. Could I have picked up a virile infection because of my compromised immune system? Is a severe headache cause for alarm when you have MRSA? When is it a good idea to be hospitalized for this, I live with 10 roommates.

Any tips/thoughts you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Feeling miserable in Massachusetts!

Who Has A Pet And MRSA?

I've had MRSA since 2005 still battling with it. I feel I might of gave my hamster MRSA somehow. My hamster fell ill last year Sept.2007. Started with a bad skin infection and he started going bald. He seems to just keep getting worst. When I took him to the vet last month he had a big abcess on his belly that looked like a boil. I kept giving my hamster his medicine. He started getting better. Than I noticed another abcess on his underside. My hamster is now half paralized and slowly dying. He has yellowish green fluids in his ears. I know someone on this forum said they had an ear infection and they found MRSA in the ear infection.

Anyone here have any pets as well as MRSA? Has your pet seem to be getting ill or died while you had MRSA? I'm now afraid to touch any pets. I don't want to contaminate them.

I don't know where to start or what to do. I was dianosed with MRSA 5 days ago then found out from the pharmacy (not my dr-well,the PA as I never get to see a dr)about being contagious. Got sent home from work with another girl that has been walking around with an open MRSA sore for 2 weeks(nice that they are concerned now)and I'm freaking out. Beyond my dr not being concerned and the fine co.I work for exposing me to this-What do I do now? Am I allowed to hug my mom? How contagious am I to my roommates-to anyone? Am I ever allowed to have a boyfriend again? Can I still be a waitress? I'm very scared.

Hello Bob Thanks for getting back. I want to tell my story. Im a married with 4 girls. Im 27 years old. I live in Ontario.
I see a walk in as my family doctor, when I go I can see up to 4 doctors they it changes by the day.. I first went there in May with the red bumps (30) in May... The Doctor gave me pills and said it was a rash from my hot tub.

After three weeks I was shaving my under arm and noticed a small lump.. with in three days it got to be the size of a golf ball. I went back to the doctors and they said it was a boil gave me meds and sent me home, two days later it started to drain but was still growing,
I went back...and the doctor said he was going to drain it. he used a biopsy needle and tryed to drain it for over 10 mins but nothing would come out he took a swab and three days later they called had e come back to change the meds after only being on them for two days.they then told me to come back in three days by then i have four more boils around the first one... read more

Stories / Photos/Pimples

I've been going through many old posts, and found a thread from a while ago (don't remember how long ago) where someone was going to post people's stories and photos (I think Nancy's birds?). Just wondering if they're still posted anywhere. I'd love to see them!
On a completely unrelated topic, how do you tell the difference between a "normal" pimple and a MRSA or staph pimple? I think I'm starting to annoy my friends because I get very upset (basically, I freak out) at every pimple (which, since my surgery, I seem to get more of lately!). Is it the itching sensation? Any other clues?
Thank you once again!

I have had MRSA, confirmed and tested too many times to count. I contracted MRSA at age 12. I am now 30 and I have had well over 500 abscesses. I have been treated in the past by a Dr of infectious disease who was baffled that I still had outbreaks because my skin tested negative for colonization. However, every single outbreak I get tests positive for MRSA and is very resistant to nearly everything but Macrobid. Vancomycin has not helped and I am borderline allergic to it as it caused me to have convulsive vomiting. Rocephin, Clindamycin, Keflex, Z-pack… and others do not kill this nasty hanger-on. I am allergic to sulfides. I have had nose treatments with Mupirocin and I use antimicrobial soap everyday from head to toe. I wash my hands so much they crack and bleed. I have also had Polinidal disease which tested MRSA positive. I cannot rid myself of this aggressive disease. The hardest part is that I get lesions mostly on the labia majora. The lymph nodes in the groin swell and the... read more
