Diagnosed with MRSA ~20 minutes ago

I have been in the hospital for 5 days with what the doctors were telling me was a
series or cavitary lesions in my lung, they believed to be caused by staph. They felt it
was not mrsa because my white blood cells were dropping to normal and i seemed to
be responding to "regular" antibiotics. However, they just came and told me they DO
think its MRSA. They have started me on IV doxycycline and plan to do that today and
tomorrow, then let me out of the hospital with a month of oral antibiotics. Im really
scared that they aren't doing enough. What questions should I ask? What should I
insist on? I want to get this right while I'm still in the hospital and can still affect my
treatment. Any help appreciated. Sam

After a 20 days on zyvox 600mg twice a day, had another chest x-ray today and still have MRSA pneumonia. ID doctor said take another week of the zyvox. In the mean time, scheduled me for MRI of chest and abdomen in the morning. Also took blood cultures, won't know about those until next week. Still running a fever 101 and having chills and cold sweats, nauseated too. Have any advice?

My husband had back surgery last july. 2 weeks later ended up in the ER and had back sugery again for mrsa. I had never seen him cry before the pain was so bad. He did the IV Vanco. for 2 weeks than they up the dose allergic reaction to that landed him back in the ER. He was put on oral antibiatic for 2 months. The infection has stayed at 2.9% since. but since than it seems like more and more of his joints hurt real bad. He takes narcotic pain medicine for back pain (9 surgerys) and this does not touch the pain. 30 mgs of morphine dulls the pain. Was wondering if anyone can relate to this. Don't get to much info from the ID doctor. I feel so sorry for him there are days he spends 9/10ths of the day in bed.

I had surgery for bladder cancer in October 2010, developed a fever, cough, and sinus congestion when I was six weeks post-op. Found out in December that I have MRSA pneumonia. Being treated with Zyvox now, have been on it for over a week, saw an infectious disease on Monday, he says that he wants me to stay on it for two more weeks. Still running a temp.of 100 and my white blood count is still high, but the x-ray of my chest looks good. He doesn't seem concerned really, just wondering if anyone else feels this way? I know that I'm tired of being sick with this. I have no energy, I'm tired all the time, and my muscles in my legs ache . Wonder if it could be caused by this? Would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!!!!

My story just started..a quick review. Had surgery Nov. 23 and on Dec. 23 landed in the ER again for a boil (had two others that did not go any further than a pimple like thing) that was lanced, drained and I had home care to pack/unpack for about 4 weeks. It is still needing polysporin and a band aid but no more nursing visits. I was told a week after the 23rd that the ER found MRSA. I had my first set of swabs (mouth, nose, anus) done last Wed. and got the call from the family Dr. that it was all clear. Nothing came back for the cultures, no staph ..and no specifically MRSA. I am to do one more set of swabs and if all clear then Dr. said no more antibiotics to be prescribed and no more swabs needing done.

...good news? I feel it might be but wanted to check in here too.

Daughter in law

She is 27 and in good health.
Had a sore on her bottom Sat, and by Monday so sore, she went to the
doctor. He mentioned going in for IV antibiotics, but she had
dismissed it as overkill. She called me though, and asked me about it,
and I thought to myself that if he mentioned it, it would probably be
best, so I read up and got to Staph infections (which the doc told her
it probably was) and about fainted.

I called her back and asked how far the red was from the center and
she said it was actually coming around to her sides and up her front,
at least 6 inches. I told her to pack her bag.

They started her on something that starts with a V right away, and
cultured it. The next morning she went in to have it surgically
drained and cleaned. Afterwards the surgeon said the abscess was
larger than expected. About 9 centimeters. (sounds huge and dangerous
to me but I have little to go by)
They have given her several antibiotics, one made her itch but

Live in family member just diagnosed with msra

Hey there.. I live with my 85 year old grandmother who was just diagnosed as a carrier of mrsa. She went to the hospital for a cough and apparently it was noted in her chart from a year ago that she is a carrier. We were never informed by her doctors. In fact they had her secluded at the hospital (a year ago) but the nurse told us that it was due to her pneumonia case at that time. No one ever mentioned MRSA! She will be home tomorrow and I am very worried. I live here in the same home with her along with my 3 year old son, my 60 yr old mother and my brother. My Grandmother is very filthy, she does not wash her hands, touches everything around the house constantly. eats out of the fridge literally with a spoon(like opens the cottage cheese and takes a few bites). She chews gum and leaves it on the counter.she rinses dishes with cold water and puts them away after using them. We already had major concerns about her, but now with this I am terrified. I understand that she has already ... read more

My daughter went through a horrible battle with MRSA. She was in the hospital for SEVEN months and they did NOT expect her to live. She made it through the hospital battle but still takes so many pain meds so she can function. Many of the meds I have seen listed on this forum. I know she wears a pain patch andalso takes Fentenyl, Neurotin and Hydrocodone. You can see some of her intricate MRSA photos at http://www.youtube.com/my_videos?feature=mhum So, Does the pain ever get better?

Is it possible to have mrsa for years?

In spring of 2006 I was in an accident which had me waking up (the following morning) to see an IV in my hand that
appeared on the verge of a severe infection. Rather than stay and discuss the hospital's lack of cleanliness, I literally
pulled tubes etc., and got outta Dodge.

In Spring of 2007, I attempted to squeeze a large pimple on my neck. I realized, after feeling the pain, that the 'pimple' was
probably more inclined to be a small boil, although I've never experienced a boil in my life. I went to emergency, was
treated and swabbed and sent home. Part of my treatment was to attend the hospital twice daily for 3-4 days for IV
antibiotics. After the night IV treatment on day one, I found that the skin around the IV shunt was infected. I removed the
shunt and did not return to the hospital.

I have have breakouts approx ever 6 months, and I have been attempting to stay on top of things through sea salt and
soap mixtures, hydrogen peroxide, keeping the pimple/bo... read more

I just don't know what to think. The Dr's and nurses tell me it can be serious but don't seem to be too concerned, then I come online to try to learn more and I am confused, scared and worried. Here is my quick story.

About a month and a half ago I went in for day surgery. I seemed to be healing quite well from it except I got an UTI pretty quickly after and then a nasty cold. 3 weeks after surgery I developed a boil on my groin area. It was small but very painful. I just thought it was a pimple or skin irritation from clothing. I put polysporin on it as much as I could and did my best to keep my clothing from touching it. I remember feeling hot and generally not well. It resolved on it's own. A week(ish) later I developed a boil on my backside near the top, again it was annoying and I used hot compresses and it resolved on its own. However I had one on the back of my thigh/inner thigh area that grew about the size of a ping pong ball, was hot as heck and painful as hell. I saw a... read more

I have had MRSA since 2004 I have had 11 breast surgeries and so many skin abscesses removed ( they stopped draining and started just cutting out the tissue) I currently have two open behind both ears packed with gauze and one next to my anal. I have had two lymph nodes one in my groin and one under my left arm removed because of mrsa. I had toe surgery because the second to last small toe in my right foot was black and looked as though it was bleeding on top of the skin. There was MRSa in the bone along with strep bacteria growing. All of the specialist I have seen have been treating me with bactrum, rocephin, vancomycin, done it oral and IV. I went to the Dr. last week and he said he is going to remove my right breast because there is so much drainage still from my first breast surgery in 2005. The dr. then tells me day before yesterday that he thinks it is best to take both. I am postin here not for pitty by any means just someone to talk to.I am married with a four year old daught... read more

Bone pain

I'm an 18 year old male, and last year on a weekend i discovered what
seemed to be a huge boil/pimple on my lower back/butt. The boil hurt so
much that i couldn't stop complaining about the terrible pain, so i went
to the doctor, had it swabbed and was diagnosed with MRSA. I was then
prescribed some medicine and the boil for the most part went away and it periodic came back but i haven't had it for around 6 months. Now my
issue is that the bone directly under where the MRSA was hurts a lot?
does anyone know if that is because of the MRSA and if i should get it
checked out?

Hi everyone. I am new to this site. I posted the other day about help with all natural cures. My whole family has MRSA and we battle it everyday. I found someone online named Christine Dawson, but was wondering if anyone had bought her program. I don't want to waste any more money on fighting this disease if I don't have to. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
