My daughter went through a horrible battle with MRSA. She was in the hospital for SEVEN months and they did NOT expect her to live. She made it through the hospital battle but still takes so many pain meds so she can function. Many of the meds I have seen listed on this forum. I know she wears a pain patch andalso takes Fentenyl, Neurotin and Hydrocodone. You can see some of her intricate MRSA photos at http://www.youtube.com/my_videos?feature=mhum So, Does the pain ever get better?

In spring of 2006 I was in an accident which had me waking up (the following morning) to see an IV in my hand that
appeared on the verge of a severe infection. Rather than stay and discuss the hospital's lack of cleanliness, I literally
pulled tubes etc., and got outta Dodge.

In Spring of 2007, I attempted to squeeze a large pimple on my neck. I realized, after feeling the pain, that the 'pimple' was
probably more inclined to be a small boil, although I've never experienced a boil in my life. I went to emergency, was
treated and swabbed and sent home. Part of my treatment was to attend the hospital twice daily for 3-4 days for IV
antibiotics. After the night IV treatment on day one, I found that the skin around the IV shunt was infected. I removed the
shunt and did not return to the hospital.

I have have breakouts approx ever 6 months, and I have been attempting to stay on top of things through sea salt and
soap mixtures, hydrogen peroxide, keeping the pimple/bo... read more

I just don't know what to think. The Dr's and nurses tell me it can be serious but don't seem to be too concerned, then I come online to try to learn more and I am confused, scared and worried. Here is my quick story.

About a month and a half ago I went in for day surgery. I seemed to be healing quite well from it except I got an UTI pretty quickly after and then a nasty cold. 3 weeks after surgery I developed a boil on my groin area. It was small but very painful. I just thought it was a pimple or skin irritation from clothing. I put polysporin on it as much as I could and did my best to keep my clothing from touching it. I remember feeling hot and generally not well. It resolved on it's own. A week(ish) later I developed a boil on my backside near the top, again it was annoying and I used hot compresses and it resolved on its own. However I had one on the back of my thigh/inner thigh area that grew about the size of a ping pong ball, was hot as heck and painful as hell. I saw a... read more

I have had MRSA since 2004 I have had 11 breast surgeries and so many skin abscesses removed ( they stopped draining and started just cutting out the tissue) I currently have two open behind both ears packed with gauze and one next to my anal. I have had two lymph nodes one in my groin and one under my left arm removed because of mrsa. I had toe surgery because the second to last small toe in my right foot was black and looked as though it was bleeding on top of the skin. There was MRSa in the bone along with strep bacteria growing. All of the specialist I have seen have been treating me with bactrum, rocephin, vancomycin, done it oral and IV. I went to the Dr. last week and he said he is going to remove my right breast because there is so much drainage still from my first breast surgery in 2005. The dr. then tells me day before yesterday that he thinks it is best to take both. I am postin here not for pitty by any means just someone to talk to.I am married with a four year old daught... read more

Bone pain

I'm an 18 year old male, and last year on a weekend i discovered what
seemed to be a huge boil/pimple on my lower back/butt. The boil hurt so
much that i couldn't stop complaining about the terrible pain, so i went
to the doctor, had it swabbed and was diagnosed with MRSA. I was then
prescribed some medicine and the boil for the most part went away and it periodic came back but i haven't had it for around 6 months. Now my
issue is that the bone directly under where the MRSA was hurts a lot?
does anyone know if that is because of the MRSA and if i should get it
checked out?

Hi everyone. I am new to this site. I posted the other day about help with all natural cures. My whole family has MRSA and we battle it everyday. I found someone online named Christine Dawson, but was wondering if anyone had bought her program. I don't want to waste any more money on fighting this disease if I don't have to. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just checking in to say Merry Christmas to all of my friends here. I know its challenging to have fun during the holidays with an active infection but at least you are still alive. Every day we know more about MRSA than the day before. It's only a matter of time before they will finally find a cure. In the meantime, take good care of yourselves and love those that love you so much. In the end, the love we take is equal to the love we make.

hugs,

post-MRSA spinal injections

Well I have finally seen a new spine dr- (the first one ignored my symptoms, and the strenuous activity he advocated caused 2 (L3-L4 &L4-L5)of the 5 bulging lumbar discs -that we found after the fact- to herniate (large central herniations, which caused me to fall and break my foot, which ultimately resulted in MRSA from the bone graft)-and after sending me to my IDD for clearance has scheduled a lumbar injection. I am very paranoid at this point of germs AND dr mistakes but after considering my options-laying in bed to reduce the pain or-take more-and eventually more-opioids to cover it up and keep going like I have- I feel I have to try something. The frustrating thing is, after 6 months off my feet from the break and mrsa- I thought my back was better but once I was "back on my feet" I found things had really deteriorated spinally, my RA is much worse, my sphincter of oddi dys. is out of control, etc. I'm just wondering if I should have a myelogram done first to make sure they... read more

Hi everyone. My name is Bobby. I'm 33 years old and I was just diagnosed with
MRSA 3 weeks ago. I am a NY city garbage man. I cut myself on my leg while
picking up a bag of garbage. I don't know what was in the bag that cut me but
it was a pretty bad cut. Needless to say I never went to the Dr. To treat my
wound. 2 weeks later with no warning I came down with a 103 fever chills
severe pain in my legs back and head. I thought I had the flu. The second day a
boil popped up on my thigh the size of a qaurter. After the 3rd day the pain was
so bad in my legs I couldn't walk. I went to the ER. They drained the boil and it
came back positive for MRSA. I was in the hosp for 6 days on all different
antibiotics. They sent me home on the 6th day with no meds and no real info on
this condition. I don't know how serious this is. Will it come back?what will
cause it to come back? Will it always be that severe if it does come back? If I
cut myself what should I do? How will... read more

CLINDAMYCIN / CLEOCIN

Inducible resistance… is an overlooked complication which must be addressed concerning treatment of MRSA bacterial infections.

The problem with inducible resistance.
During ordinary lab culture testing, the microbe appears to be resistant to erythromycin and susceptible to clindamycin, BUT… once the MRSA patient is exposed to clindamycin, inducible resistance quickly develops.

Clindamycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, particularly effective against certain types of bacteria.

Additionally… if individual has been exposed to clindamycin - it is best to take proactive measures in protecting ‘system flora’ against overpopulation of other opportunistic pathogens which will capitalize on the imbalance this antibiotic therapy creates. Using probiotics will replenish “friendly/good” bacteria which will assist in keeping destructive pathogens in check, and will ultimately assist system regain balance. Clindamycin antibiotic therapy has been determined to be high on list of pat... read more

My son got a case of mrsa on his leg. He thought it was a spider bite at first but the boil got very large very fast. The doc did not take a culture but treated it as mrsa because she said she believed it was that. My son has took his meds, He thinks he has it again on his back. He uses a community shower with 15 other males and thinks this is where he got it. Please help me if there is anything new anyone can tell me. Thanks! suzymrla@yahoo.com

MRSA- Breastmilk Please Help!

Thank you so much for reading this post! I am so glad I found this discussion forum. My daughter was born two years ago and I have not found answers thus far. My daughter was born with a severe birth defect (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia) which required a lengthy hospitalization. Before giving birth the her, my nose was swabbed and tested positive for MRSA. I was told this was standard procedure, a large number of the population is positive, and that nothing would be done differently. When I gave birth to my daughter, I started pumping breastmilk for her in the NICU. She started taking my breastmilk via ng tube. About two weeks after birth my daughter became septic with MRSA in her blood stream. She was placed on ECMO for eighteen days due to the sepsis (very tough time). Never having been exposed to the medical field previously, something just told me to ask to have my breast milk tested (as I remembered that I tested postive in my nose). They agreed although said it was uncommon... read more

I was just diagnosed with MRSA infection on my toe. For a suspected infected ingrown toenail, the nail was removed and sent for a culture to rule out fungal causes. It came back as positive for MRSA and reactive to Bactrim. My Dr wanted to be very aggressive once the culture results came in. Prior I had been through 2-10 day rounds of Cephlexin and 2-7 day rounds of Bactrim (the first 1-2 X daily the second 2-2 X daily) Once he had the results he extended my Bactrim to 14 days (2-2 X daily) and added the Cleocin (2-3 X daily).

I am due to start a new job on Monday and it is at a hospital. I keep the toe completely covered, then in a sock and shoe. My husband and daughter have not had any issues and I've been fighting this for months now. So my question is : Is it safe for me to go to work and if so is it necessary to reveal my infection to them if I am keeping it covered and it is all but completely healed. I'm worried it will cost a job I've been looking for since the f... read more
