MRSA in bloodstream

Hello All.
I am wondering if anyone has ever had MRSA in their bloodstream, and if so, how are you doing now? I pray no one knows of anyone that died from this. My husband just had blood drawn to test for it. His health is declining, and I'm so worried. His symptoms are, frequent lowgrade fevers, chills, shaking, joint pain/swelling, loss of strength. Some of these could be contributed to by his Cauda Equina Syndrome, but he's progressively getting worse. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

I had double pneumonia (not sure if MRSA caused it) and I had MRSA in my blood
and kidneys. I was treated with Vancomycin I had endocarditis and waiting open
heart surgery and had all of my teeth extracted while I was in the hospital (no
antibiotics and had dental issues and caused endocarditis) after 2 months in the
hospital and weeks of vancomycin treatments I am losing all of my hair! Has
anyone else had this issue? It seems this has turned my life upside down. I spent
my birthday on life support and lost my teeth that I never expected would happen
and losing my hair and hubby left me while I was in rehab learning to walk again!
Oh yes, MRSA also damaged my back where I had a spinal fusion a few years
ago! Please let me know if you have any advice or if you had hair loss. Thanks!

I just received this report and none of my doctors know what to do. I have earaches, neck is painful, my brain is so very frequently useless, I also have Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, and auto-immune factors. Should I be nervous that my doctors are not doing anything regarding my situation.

Can you get MRSA 10 years apart?

I had a boil on my buttock in 2007, which turned into MRSA. After a
lot of wound care, it was cured (so I thought).
Now, 10 years later, after an injection in my buttock, I have a boil
starting. I was going to lance it myself, however I remembered the
history of MRSA and now I'm scared to death!
Of note, I have an excellent immune system and have had zero problems
in the last 10 years. I had a doctor look at it (he did not know my
hx) and he said to leave it alone. That was 2 weeks ago and now it's
getting bigger. Should I consult a surgeon? Could it be MRSA again?

Hello all,
And a big warm hug to all my forum friends, especially Lady K, Linda Mc. & Nancy. I won't promise anything, but I will try to weigh in as often as I can to try and offer my knowledge of MRSA to everyone. And at this point, I feel I'm somewhat of an expert on the subject.

As many of you know, I had a long 16month battle with MRSA in the blood that almost took my life. Within a 52 week period I had been given over 32 weeks of IV antibotic infused twice a day taking almost 2 hrs at a time.

After my last bout, and my blood was not testing possitive for MRSA, it took a good year before I felt I was out of the woods, and well on the way to having a strong, healthy immune system, ready to fight anything. and now, it has been a little over 2 years now, and still MRSA free. But I have been left with a few residual presents, compliments of MRSA.

I suffer from Reflux but is now controlable with herbals, and 3 doses of zantac daily. Before this, I had chronic laryngiti... read more

5/2016- 40 years old and healthy, fell getting out of a vehicle and broke my
humerus. 8 surgeries, 9 hospitalizations, PICC line infection and finally had my
arm replayed in November 2016. During that time I had severe widespread bone
pain, suspected it was from the IV antibiotics. February 2017 released to go back
to work. Now, October 2017, I learn my bone has not healed together, I have been
having the same type of bone pain (although not quite as bad), temperature of 99-
100 every single night, I FEEL infected. My inflammatory markers are normal.
None of my doctors- PCP, orthopedics, Infectious Disease, now rheumatology-
nobody can figure out what is happening. Just got a bone stimulator from
orthopedics. I am beginning to wonder if these aches and pains will ever go away.
I would appreciate any suggestions/words of encouragement.

Last fall I developed a huge painful lump on my buttocks under the skin. It seemed to get worse and worse. We were without water for several days and I think bacteria got into the area because I had an itchy rash already. I ended up at the doctor and they just looked at it, didn't lance it and put me on doxycycline without any cultures. I started researching immediately. Within several days, the rash had spread to the other lower buttocks area. They were both hard and painful. I ended up in the ER and told them they needed to be lanced. They lanced one side, cultured and I came back next day. They put me on clindamycin for 2 weeks and antibiotic cream. Cultures showed the bacteria to more sensitive. They ended up lancing the other side as well. 3 weeks later, the area healed well. All they said was it was staph and that it responded better to clindamycin than doxycycline.
Fast forward, @ year later, I have had problems with left side, always in the area that was lanced. I will ... read more

Living on antimicrobials for life after MRSA

SO grateful for this site. Helps me realize I am not alone in this battle and that this is not just in my head.

Ever since MRSA hospitalization about 3.5 years ago, life has never been the same. I have all the hallmarks of ME/CFS and can't function about half my days. Much better now than when I was bedridden for about seven months.

My permanent solution is to be on antimicrobials like an AIDS patient. Turmeric, garlic and other naturalpathy solutions did nothing for me. Finding doctors to help is hard as they don't like to treat something they can't test for. However I got part of my life back by finally getting doxycycline, azithromycin, and antifungals. I give that information for those who are in worse shape. It is hard to live like this, and some days it is too hard.

Has anyone experienced being permanently on antibiotics? Has anyone been on them a long time and created resistant strains and can share what they did to recover? I live in constant fear th... read more

Hi, this is my first post here so the story might get a bit long.....
Back in Jan 2002 I had been suffering from depression, so much so that I did a drug OD of Diltiazam CQ( a blood pressure medication). I had no idea that what happened after this was even possible. I wasn't even trying to kill myself, I just wanted people to know I was in pain...
At any rate, the OD caused my large intestine to go necrotic due to lack of blood flow. I lost all my large intestine including some of my Ileum. The first surgery I coded on the operating table and was admidistered 10 min of CPR. The surgeon had told my husband, before the surgery to start calling the relatives and prepare for a funeral. Nobody thought I would live. I was in a coma for over two weeks and when I finally woke up they weren't sure if I would ever regain my mental faculties....I was put on wound-vac treatment for over a month and had an ileostomy.

In October of that same year I gave myself an incarcerated hernia. After ... read more

Does anyone have any experience with using Clindamycin to treat MRSA? I went
back to the doctor after taking 10 days of Clindamycin 150mg t.id. because there
is still a rash in the spot where the infection was (is). It looks a lot better than
before antibiotics but it hasnít gotten any better since around day 5 of treatment.
She put me on 10 more days of Clindamycin. After 15 days the rash itís still there.
Its light pink and has almost a satin look to it. If you shine a light on it there is a
shiny effect to it. Itís not wet but not dry... I donít want to keep taking a antibiotic if
it is not going to help me. And advice?

What do you do about MRSA when you have no insurance? My husband got hurt at work in June 05 and he had ankle surgery. Alot of the people we have talked to said that is most likely how he got it. Workers comp will not pay for a bone scan or blood cultures. What do we do? He was the first to get the boils and he got them a week after surgery. His job dropped his health insurance when he got hurt. WHAT CAN WE DO???

MRSA abscess on spinal cord

I have someone who has a MRSA abscess wrapped around his spinal cord.
Surgery removed most of it, left the front portion as impossible to reach. He has
been left paralyzed from the chest down. Much pain and horrible spasms. The
plan is to contain the abscess until it runs out of food with vancomycin and
ceftroline $500/day. This will continue for months in a nursing home. Is this a
good option? Any others?
Other factors are diabetes and marginal kidneys. He weighs 320 pounds yet after
gastric bypass this past May. This causes malabsorption issues.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

does cipro work for mrsa; allergic to bactrim

I'd had a sore on my hand, rash on my legs that kept getting bigger and redder and when I went to doctor at clinic 6 weeks ago he gave me bactroban ointment to put on it and told me stop scratching. I went back 3 weeks ago then he just refilled bactroban ointment and still said stop scratching. This time I had rash on face also.

Last week went to derm (no insurance so understand my dilemma in not being able to go to infectious disease because of money) and she was amazed the clinic doctor never prescribed oral antibiotics.

She gave me 28 supply of Bactrim and today I went in for follow up appt. Over the weekend after day 3 on Bactrim I developed hives all over thighs, arms and stomach. She told me today to stop bactroban ointment, switched me from Bactrim DS to Cipro 750 mg 2x/day for 14 days.

What concerns me is she said if the Cipro doesn't appear to work over 3 days go to ER for IV antibiotics. I'm not sure and am thinking of a second opinion from urgent care doctor beca... read more

Meeting/Dating platform for people with MRSA

We know that most people with MRSA, recent or older, get physically
disconnected and still have their sexuality intact.

Obviously anyone with good conscience and decency would never want to
spread his/her disease to others not to mention the risk of getting it
back in case of a full recovery if everyone acted recklessly.

I have seen many questions and comments about one partner or potential
partner being MRSA positive while the other person being MRSA negative
in this forum.

However no one has mentioned anything about the cases when both
partners having MRSA.

Why not having a meeting platform where the MRSA positive people can
interact and even find a partner for romantic moments? Is there
anything like that out there somewhere?
This should further minimizine the spread of MRSA while bringing back
some quality of life to those carry MRSA.

Any thoughts, suggestions or informations about this subject?

I'm writing this to let people know more about this fatal bacterial infection. I know to some it's just bothersome, but 3 Years ago. I was diagnosed with staph in arm close to my wrist. within two weeks it traveled to my nose, but went away in my arm. Unfortunately once staph enters your nose there it will stay. Even if you get better. It's very hard to get rid of. And yet again before I started to feel like my old self. It came back. This time it was diagnosed mrsa staph. I was told while i had these constant outbreaks I was not going to be able to work, This it won't go away so i've been sitting here with a 6month old child which i love dearly and my soon to be wife (when we can afford to get married) for 3 months without a check of any kind. After seeing a ears, nose, and throat specialist. I was even more upset. He was the one that informed me i could get rid of the mrsa staph bacteria in my nose. He went to tell me many people carry the mrsa or common staph bacteria in there nose,... read more

MRSA STAPH and TURMERIC

because of tremendous stress in my life recently, I picked up MRSA from my handicapped little girl who is colonized with MRSA. I developed a boil on my face and didn't know what it was, so i did some online research. I am loathe to go the the Dr. unless I'm really ill, so I decided to try to cure myself. I found that TURMERIC the indian spice worked for a lot of people suffering from boils so I decided to give it a try as I happened to have some on hand. I began by using warm compresses dipped in a solution of water salt and about a teaspoon of turmeric. I also mixed a teaspoon with about a quarter cup of warm half and half and drank it several times throughout the day. The boil was nearly the size of a golf ball when I began. By the second day it opened and began to drain pus. Then I made a paste with salt turmeric and water and applied it directly to the boil and covered it with a sterile gauze. I kept up the regimen and the boil is almost completely gone after 8 days. However, se... read more
