Recurring MRSA Infections

Since early 2004, my wife has had recurring MRSA outbreaks (probably about 4/5 times during that period) - mid2004, our son was born and he has had a positive MRSA id on a couple of absesses. My wife and I did the Bactrim and Rifampin treatment, and my son did a 10 day treatment of Bactrim. When it recently came back again in my wife and she saw the Infectious Disease specialist, she said that she only sees these recurring outbreaks in people with HIV, which in our case is virtually impossible. Do you think she is correct? Any advice is greatly appreciated as I am becoming very afraid. BTW, this website is a terrific resource and I really appreciate it.

MRSA in surgical wound

I was a healthy 46 yr old female when I underwent a double mastectomy with free-TRAM reconstruction (tissue taken from abdomen) in Sept05. Since then, I have had MRSA 3 times in my abdominal wound and have required an additional 4 surgeries (last was Jun06) and 5 hospitalizations. (I also had multiple blood clots in both lungs and in one leg, but that's a story for another forum.) My 1st MRSA infection was treated with a month of IV Vancomycin and oral Levaquin, followed by another month of oral Minocycline. I was treated prophylactically in Jan06 with IV Vancomycin and IV Invanz for 2 weeks after my 3rd surgery. Within a week of finishing these drugs, I showed signs of re-infection - increased pain & redness at surgical site and fever. My ID doc decided to treat me with oral Zyvox for a month. I quickly felt better, but that drug really wrecked havoc on my blood counts. I ended up back in the hospital needing a bone marrow biopsy as it was thought that my bone marrow was da... read more

Neem Benefits in nature cure treatment

February 5, 2009 in Healing Medicinal Herbs

Neem has been used in a varietyi of ways both for personal and community health. Neem leaves, fruits, flowers and Bark contains antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antinflammatory and also acts as a contraceptive agent. Our indigenous knowledge and resources are made use of on an increasing scale as low-cost, effective ingredients for the realization of the lofty goal of ‘Health for all’. This native Indian tree has been identified on the five-thousand-year-old seals excavated from the Indus Valley Civilization”. Today the margosa (Neem) is valued more highly for its capacity to exercise the demon of disease than the spirit of the dead, and an image of the folk goddess Sitala can often be seen suspended from a neem branch where she guards against small pox. Renowned for its antiseptic property, the neem tree is thought to be particularly protective of women and children. Delivery... read more

Support A Healthy Immune System

Supporting the immune system affords optimal function as it is biologically preprogrammed to do, in ridding the body of system invaders. Of course healthy foods (the body’s fuel) is best… but when one is unable to meet healthy ‘balanced’ daily values, *consider safely supplementing that which is lacking from diet.
*(One must check for drug interactions as these impact us particularly. Some supplement interactions with routine meds ingested can have fatal results.)

I've had MRSA for almost four months now.

Hi all. Great board. I am here because I thought I would ask if anyone could tell if they have experienced something similar to what I am going through. In January I got sick fast with an abcess on my testicular region. Most pain I've ever had, they had to cut it open and drain it. I was in the hospital for a week, and at home with an IV for something like two weeks extra on vincomyacin. I've been on Rifampin several times, because I've had two outbreaks on my skin since this. Originally it was most likely a spider bite that got infected, on my upper leg. But now I am just coming out of the second batch of rifampin and doxycycline (I'm allergic to Bactrum) since being in the hospital. In other words I've been on antibiotics since mid January, off and on. I am worried that I still have it. I am noticing some bumps popping up still so I will probably have to go see my doctor again. I am very worried that this thing will never go away. The antibiotics just don't seem to be... read more

Povidone Iodine (aka Betadine) Baths?
Posted by Mike

According to a well documented study
you can find on Pubmed, 10% Povidone
Iodine solution (also known by the
generic product name Betadine) is
capable of killing Staph Aureus
within 15 seconds of contact, at a
dilution of between 1 to 100 and 1
to 1000.

Given this fact, I want to know if
its safe to add PVI to bath water
and soak in it. Several other
sources indicate that topically
applied iodine is absorbed through
the skin at a rate of 12%. My
concern about taking a betadine bath
is: how much iodine exactly would be
absorbed by the body, and is it
enough to be toxic? Iodine
poisoning sounds pretty nasty, so I
want some hard data on this.

I posted the question to Quora, in
hopes of getting some people with
more expertise and the ability to
calculate such a question, to answer
it. Perhaps others here, (unless
able to answer it themselves), would
consider going to upvote this
question on Quora so it will get ... read more

Hydrogen peroxide uses in staph/mrsa

I would just like to make a comment and see if anyone else has found this helpful. I have had this infection for 2.5 yrs. I think I have tried most all of the conservative meds they use for this......I have never been on IV antibiotics, so far.

The other day I got into the shower with a large bottle of peroxide and just poured it generously all over myself from the chin down, and rubbed it in good. I foamed up like crazy, of course. Then I took my regular shower with my medicated body wash for psoriasis/eczema and then rinsed and repeated with the peroxide. Its been 2 days since I did this and all of the lesions seem to be drying up. I am not sure how good this will work in the long-run, but has anyone else had experience with peroxide? I have also gone back to trying Protopic ointment again as well. I sure hope to find something that works. It seems every time something looks promising, you turn around and break out all over again within a few weeks.

Sincerely, Lyn

So, I've had MRSA since I was fifteen. Got it from an external
fixator. I'm a carrier. Questions are as follows.

I'm pretty sure I got gonorrhea from someone. I've been told
I'm severely allergic to penicillin my entire life. However, I was
given a penicillin injection to clear it up at a mental facility. I
felt like my heart was about to explode. Could this have been
my MRSA fighting the penicillin? Or was this just my allergic

Secondly; is it possible I could have created some sort of "super-
Gono" or something to that effect? I haven't been tested since
and am still worried.

How long to clear up red marks

I am finally finishing a 10 day course of Clindamycin for confirmed MRSA in the
groin area. The infection seems to be abating, if not gone, but there are still dark
red marks where the vesicles had appeared.

What I want to know is if there in anything or process which anyone has used to
encourage these to fade quickly. they are embarrassing. I went to a
Dermatologist the other day and he said I was not contagious, but still . . . I
happen to be at the very start of a dating relationship and I am going to have to
explain this.

Does anyone have any tips or experience with this. I debated trying to cover
them up with coverup, but this seems unwise given the nature of the infection.

Hi, I don't know if anyone has information on this but my m-I-l is very sick in the hospital. She is 86 and is very weak with high potassium and low hemoglobin. She is coughing up white fluid from her lungs which doctors don't seem to know or aren't saying what it is.
She now has open sores from her knees down and her limbs are swollen to twice there normal signs. Yesterday they advised us that she now has MRSA. Is this infection fixable. Her husband died of a staff infection ( I don't know what kind) a couple of years ago and I am very worried about her.
Any info would be helpful.

Recurring MRSA but no skin boils, only sick

I was diagnosed with MRSA after surgery on my abdomen. I went to
urgent care with all the tell tale signs of a MRSA infected wound
on one part of my surgical incision and culture came back
positive. Did 2 rounds of Clindamyacin and it took about 3 months
for feeling to return to my R leg.

I got run down, exhausted, etc. recently and seem to have a
reactivated MRSA. I am beyond fatigued, and also have capsular
contracture around one breast implant, confirmed by my surgeon. I
think it's MRSA that infected the implant site but he just wants
me on Singulaire in the hopes those muscle fibres relax.

Do any of you get recurrence but no boils, no skin lesions? I
went into mild sepsis (if there is such a thing) over the weekend
and that was scary but I took an antibiotic I have left over (not
Clindamyacin) and that got me out of a septic place.

I am using collodial silver, garlic, oil of oregano, and green
juices, no alcohol, I don't do drugs or smoke.... read more

Light Therapy for MRSA

So I've seen a lot of studies done on blue light killing MRSA. I've also seen one or
two success stories on here. I'm wondering if any one has tried blue light therapy
& how well it worked for them. I have community MRSA with tiny bumps
dispersed around my body.

As if that isn't bad enough now I am getting break outs on my usually clear face
and my derm assures me it's acne but I know that something isn't right. I'm
desperate & since I can't use dilluted essential oils all over my face(naturally oily
and I will breakout more) I want a cure for my face & if I could cure my body too
that would be great!

Tell me about your experiences with light therapy or MRSA 'acne'
