I"m so glad that I found this forum. My daughter has suffered from CA-
MRSA infections for 3yrs now. We have been through numerous
hospitalizations and enough incision and drainages to make a person
sick. All of her infections have started from a random boil and not
from an open wound, which her pediatrition finds hard to believe. She
takes regular bleach baths as well as bathes in hibiclense and we are
still fighting this monster. We have been able to catch a few of them
early enough and been prescribed bactrim but as soon as she is off of
the antibiotics for about 4 weeks she ends up with a new abscess. At
first all of her infections were on the left side of her body and now
Since August they have migrated to the right side. We have been to an
infectious disease specialists at our state research school and
returned with no answers other than her immune system is great and
there is no explanation for her frequent abscesses. I'm lost for what
to do next fo... read more

Losing hope...

I've been extremely anxious and depressed all day and feeling like my life is over.
I've been crying all day. I have an 11 year old and I don't want her to see me this
way. Im trying all that I can do to stay hopeful but it gets hard. I feel alone with
this. My MRSA wasnt bad until I went to the doctor a few days ago. The nurse
touched the infected area under my arm pit then when I got home that area got
really big and red and sore. I wonder if her touching it spurred it on? She didn't
wash her hands after touching me either and proceeded to write with her pen.
When I saw that I wanted to tell her she better was her hands... She should have
known better. I hope she washed her hands before seeing another patient...
I don't want to give this to anyone else. I'm becoming a germophobe. I don't want
my daughter to catch it... :( I'm just feeling sorry for myself and I need to snap out
of it. Sorry my post is all I've the place.

So I have a MRSA skin infection. One day I just a mrsa boil inside my nose. The outside of my nose though got red and swelled up. For a while I had blood coming out of the nostril with the boil inside. That went away and the redness and swelling on the outside of my nose died down. However, after 3 weeks I still have the bump inside my nose and a dark redish purple spot on the outside of my nose. Has anyone ever had something like this? Do you know if it will go away or if I have to do something about it? Thanks!

Feeling Better

I posted before as StillnHope but this past week was a nightmare for me. I was
crying constantly and very anxious. I cried out to God and prayed and I believe he
is helping to heal me and get this under control. I woke up today feeling much
better. I went and bought some hibiclens and Dial Gold. I've been washing
constantly and keeping sanitary. I've been taking probiotics. I still plan to get
some non irradiated garlic and will work on that next. I just feel that we need to
keep praying about this because Lord Jesus is the master healer and we need to
have more faith in Him to help get this under control and out of our lives. I pray
for all of you and I pray for a cure ASAP.

Question for Bob. Is there any benefit to crushing the sprouting garlic
and waiting 30-60 minutes, and then adding it to some Extra Virgin Olive
oil and then drizzling it over some cooled down grilled Potatoes,or
vegetables? Does the oil ruin the Allicin? Thanks ;)

I have changed the topic. Thank you for your quick response to my prev
questions in the "MRSA in my lungs" forum. However, I really need some
answers from anyone who has reoccurring MRSA and that has tried building up
immune system, eating properly, daily exercise which has now been decreased
due to extreme fatigue, and last but not least, having all the correct drs on board.
Meaning, ID, Colorectal & GI of whi h none know what else to do other than the
culture, Bloodwork, and CT all to which came back negative. I need to know if
when having a culture, does the swab have to hit the bottom of the wound to
receive an accurate result or is it ok that they just culture the middle? Also, really
need to know how does an post surgical OPEN wound in the abdomen get larger
in Width NOT depth. The opening literally grew larger in width overnight. How
does that happen? ID drs don't know neither does wound care nurses, which I
have been seeing on a weekly basis. These d... read more

Hi everyone,
I was recently diagnosed with MRSA, but I'm sure I had it for years.
I'll start with a quick history. I had impetigo when I was about 9. I was treated for
that. Then when I was 15 I had staph infection and was treated for it, then it
cleared up. Then when I was around 17 I started to get this rash which I stupidly
mistook for just body acne. One flared up but then went away and I didn't get
treated for it. Now that I'm 31, this year I started to get these horrible boils in
underarms. Then it spread to areas that no female wants. I was ignorant about
MRSA and Staph etc and I thought maybe it was an STD (even though I haven't
had sexual intercourse in over 3 years) but I just really had no other idea. I didn't
think Staph could appear in Elvis regions, but the underarm really through me for
a loop. I went to the doctor and she diagnosed me with Staph again. She
prescribed me Bactrim which helped but it didn't clear it all the way. It came back

My Story: I was hospitalized with cellulitis MRSA in groin area and MRSA in left lung. I had never experienced something so painful. Morphine did nothing for my pain. I rec'd IV Vanco and other IV antibiotics, released for 3 weeks of oral antibiotics. Broke out in hives 24/7 for several weeks. I was on Benadryl 24 hours a day. My menstrual cycle also stopped immediately. ID doctor and OBGYN could not tell me dowwhy. Dr's n played my illness and did not tell me anything. ID doctor did not even want to see me after my release. I was told to call only if I got a temperature.

After reading online about MRSA and the struggles people were having, I was scared, depressed and lonely. Approximately 1 month later, I started getting wierd bumps I had never seen before. I started using oregano and tree tea oil on them. I tried to build my immune system by eating healthy, no sugars and lots of greens, taking vitamins and probiotics. I did bleach baths and hibiclens (sp?). This worked initial... read more

My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer july 3 and was
hospitalized 2 weeks in she had surgery to place a drain for fluid in
her lungs. She got an infection which was "treated". 2 weeks later
she was released, home about a week now has mrsa so bad they have
said there is nothing left to do and gave her 2-3 weeks and put her
in hospice. Is this normal? Do you have any suggestions? I cant
believe an infection that was "treated" is now your death sentence.
Please help me understand. Thank you in advance for your time and

Herbal Remedies

My name is Pete C. and I am a journalist student at CSU Northridge, outside of Los Angeles. As a MRSA sufferer, I remember being really frightened a year ago, when i found out the bacteria had cultivated my body. Then I found this site, and I have improved my outbreaks and symptoms.

I am writing because I am doing a story on superbugs, herbal remedies, and the sufferers who confide in the internet. I would love anyones help on this story. If you require more information shoot me an email I would love to know your story of how you received the illness, what antibiotics you have taken, and any herbal remedies. I would love to go into further detail through email, and if you would like to remain unidentified we can talk about that as well. As you can imagine, I am working on a deadline so a response ASAP would be appreciated.

thank you,

Pete from Cali

Questions for Bob Anderson about garlic

Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for all the information you've offered here. I had several questions about garlic:

1. I plan to take garlic baths, but I have a very hectic schedule. What is the minimum amount of time that I can sit in the bath and still have it be effective? 1 hour? 2 hours?

2. Also, what is the minimum amount of times per week I need to take the bath for it to be effective? 2 x a week?

3. How long should you leave the garlic in the bath tub water before you soak in it?

4. When I don't have an opportunity to take a garlic bath, I want to still be able to expose my boils to crushed garlic. Sometimes garlic water is not an option because the boils are in a place that I can't soak in a pot of water. Olive oil sticks better to skin so I'm wondering if the crushed garlic would still be effective if I put it in olive oil rather than water and then put it on my skin?

Your expertise is greatly appreciated!

MRSA & Tonsillitis?

Female; 18 y/o.

April 2013: MRSA on shin. Moderate pain. Took Sulfamethoxazole.
Healed. No work missed.

May-June 2013: MRSA on ankle (same leg). Unbearable pain. 1 month of
work missed. Accompanied by an uncommon strain of strep and cellutis.
Took Sulfamethoxazole, and a separate antibiotic for both the step and
cellutis. Finally healed.

August 2013 (present): MRSA & cellutis on the same leg. Worst pain of
my life. Took Sulfamethoxazole. Had an allergic reaction. Put on
Cephalexin. It has been treated for 8 days now with Cephalexin. I
still have 2 days left. So far I have only missed a little over a week
of work. The actual spot on my leg looks a lot better and feels
better. Skin is severly peeling around the spot but I am sure that
that is to be expected.

My only concern is that now I have symptoms of tonsillitis on one
tonsil. (Swollen, white patches, fever) I am just wondering how likely
it is that I have MRSA in my throat now. & How likely... read more

Hi everyone, I have been Lesion free for six months now and trying to stay that way.I have been under extreme stress lately and I am afraid it will cause me to get sick again. Things happen that I think I have to deal with and lately I feel like I'm going to go off the deep end. Should I just ignore things for my own sake and tell everyone to leave me alone? I really fear for my health because of stress from everything that is happening in my life.Loss of my mom 3 years ago, which I got my Mrsa from trying to revive her,Court battles over her will and Estate, loss of most of my family over their greed, and after I thought this was all settled something else pops up to do with estate and I feel like I have to fight the good fight for my moms wishes. On top of that, trying to plan my daughter wedding on a tight budget because of all the money I owe for treatment of mrsa and all the supplements I have to get to keep Mrsa free.I am feel as though I am working just to keep mrsa away.Should I... read more

Possible MRSA?!

I'm 17, I had a pimple on my cheek and I popped it. It's three days
later and my cheek is red, swollen and hot to the touch. I've been
putting tea tree oil on it from the start because that's what I do for
pimples. It was yellow and crusty this afternoon and i dabbed at it
with toiler paper and the crusty-ness started flaking off so i kept
pushing at it with the toilet paper but then i got to this part that
wouldn't fall off easily so i pushed a little harder and i saw it
coming off, but where it was coming off of, there was a less than a
centimeter sized hole in my cheek (it's not very deep). I'm having my
father take me to the doctors tomorrow, but is there anything I should
do for it at the moment? Does this sound like MRSA? I'm actually
freaking out and having a break down, am I gonna be okay?

Hi all, my mom currently has what we (and the doctor she saw) is MRSA. She got it about a week and a half ago. Went to the DR 3 days later. Was prescribed a common AB but it didn't do anything. 2 days later went back to the DR and was given Bactrim. It seems to have beat back the infection. Also I must add the boil was not big like you see commonly on the internet, it did not need to be lanced. It was rather small and had a very small crater compared to the pics online. So that leads me to believe it was a weak case of MRSA or we caught it just in time to keep it from growing.

Anyways shes been on Bactrim for about a week now and the boil has pretty much healed to 80%. It doesnt look open but it needs a little bit more healing but looks SO much better than before. The problem that has her her worried is that the area around the boil is somewhat red and warm to the touch. I should add that the redness did extend a bit. It runs from the bottom of her foot on the side to just abov... read more

tygacil - way of administering

Hi everybody,

I have had a year-long infection of the urinary tract caused by two multi-resistant pathogens: coli and faecalis that do not respond at all to any antibiotics despite the pathogens showing sensitivity to them on the urethra smear test results.

I would like to take tygacil for 14 days which is apparently a mega bacteria hitter.

Has anyone been on this medication and how is it administered: through a PICC line or just normal IV cannula?

Please tell me of you happen to know or perhaps have been on it yourselves.

This is very vital information.

Kind regards

Recurrent abscesses. MRSA?

Hi all, in the past 5 weeks I have had 3 flare ups which have all been
diagnosed as "bug bites" with cellulitis. I have been put on augmentin
each time which doesn't seem to help with MRSA as I've read lately.
Each time, it starts as a small pimple which turns into a larger spot
(the size of a dime) and has puss under it. The area gets a bit
swollen and gets a defined red spot around it about the size of a
drink coaster. The red area is definitely warm to the touch. This has
been occurring only on my left arm between my elbow and shoulder in
different spots and is fairly painful. Is there anything I can do
until I get back to the doctor and have a sample of the fluid taken? I
am a very healthy male and 23 years old.

The images attached show the progression of my first flare up from its
worst point to when it began healing up. Each time, I clean the area
with alcohol prep pads and cover it with bandaid and neosporin. Does
this look like a possible MRSA in... read more

Hi folk, I was infected with MRSA after a Dr at an after hours surgery injected my TKJR
with cortisone, 5 operations later, including a knee joint revision, My leg totally fell
apart after the 4th operation when the stitches were removed and I am left with huge
amounts of pain in my knee and also seem to be getting arthritic pain elsewhere, is this
common? I endured several complications as I had allergic reactions to many of the
antibiotics used. Is it normal to inject metal with cortisone? Are you left with long term
effects from MRSA. I was on pcc line for 12 weeks then oral antibiotics, it worked out
to be 12 weeks in hospital, 12 weeks picc line at home, 8 weeks anti-coagulant
injections in stomach due to clots developed after surgery. The Dr in New Zealand did
not receive so much as a rap across the knuckles for the pain and detriment to my
enjoyment of life. In Nz we have a no blame system so all I received was less than
$11,000.00 The Dr used the sa... read more
