I have had MRSA ,I believe for at least 2 years, but was only diagnosed in may of 2006. My daughter is 3 years old and she had it in her nose, but she was fine after just a week of treatment with bactorban. She didn't have boils or any sign, just a runny nose that wouldn't go away, but I had everyone that had been around me get tested. She was the only one to have a positive result, besides me, and she is cured. I, however, have had the vancomycin home iv care, sulfamate, minocycline, zyvox $140 pill a day, hibiclens, bactorban, mycotracin, and kerflex. My doctor is with infectious disease control and told me I won the award for the most stubborn infection of the year. A lot of help that is when I go to the doctor almost weekly, good news is that they think the staff is secondary and a thing called HIDRADENTITIS SUPPERATIVE is the primary. The funny thing is when I read about that its also hard to cure, but I am on accutane now and am told I am looking at another 4-5 months. I am not ... read more

MRSA makes bad neighbors?

I live in a small town, with a small town doctors office. I was told I have MRSA by my doctor. The thing is, a friend I grew up with works there as does my next door neighbor. The neighbor is pretty new and has small kids.

So, I am expecting I will never get to know my new neighbors as she is the receptionist at the Doctors office and now knows I have MRSA. I expect her and her family to shun me in fear I may pay it to them. I suppose I would act in the same manner, it just sucks!

I imagine the woman I grew up with, who also is a receptionist--will also tell our mutual friends about my diagnosis. I may as well toss 30 years of freinds away as well.

All medications, supplements, and herbs are capable of side effects regardless how they are administered, including absorption through our largest organ - our skin. Known interactions must be thoroughly investigated as a safety precaution.

Additionally, all three topical care options below carry the same caution when it comes to application on the face - AVOID EYES. One must be fully informed in order to correctly ‘weigh treatment value vs. potential complications’ as they relate to each one of us specifically.

MRSA and Kidney infection

I came down with MRSA in March 2013 after having a cath a port
installed so I could have monthly infusions due to my MS and
Ankylosing Spondylitis. It was septic and after a month of IV
Treatment, Dr told me I was fine. Last Friday I resumed my monthly
infusion for AS. By Sunday a.m., I had come down with UTI and then it
progressed with the worst kidney infection I have ever had. Urgent
care Dr.put me on Bactrum and nothing for pain. Could MRSA still be in
my system and maybe flair up when the infusion lowered my immune
system? And of course, my Dr is out until next week. I've taken the
bactrum for 2 full days now and woke up this am with the worst pain in
my pelvic bone (never have had this pain in any prev infect) and not
feeling any better(burning and kidney pain). Sorry this is long, your
input is appreciated. Just worried. Thanks

Boil inside my coochie (sorry for wording)

So I think a boil popped inside my coochie. Normally, I go through a
process of letting the boil heal after they've popped but I don't see
how this process is going to work now that I can't exactly let my wound
breathe. I'm sorry for the wording - it's not exactly a topic I want to
discuss anywhere, much less on public forums.

Hi, I'm asking for info. for my mom. She was in Florida and found these little red bumps on her leg, thought she was bitten with red ants... few days later it became red, swollen and turned into an abcess. She had a blood clot on the same leg, so the dr. said it was a result of the blood clot. But, if she had gotten bitten by ants maybe she has the mrsa??? any info to help me out on tests she may need??? Thank you!!!!!!!! Her wound has not gotten better since Feb of this year. Even the wound clinic isnt having any luck??

I am totally ignorant about MRSA. It was discovered when I was pre-
screening for a surgery. I freaked out because I had a brand new
grandbaby. The hospital said don't worry about it, I was just
colonized. It was mostly the way they would treat me with antibiotics
to keep me from getting post-surgery infections. That was a number of
months ago. Now my husband and I went on vacation together with my son
and his family. My husband got a huge boil, and my son got one too! Did
they get it from me? Could they have gotten it from the pool at the
resort? Please help.

Wow, how life can change in a matter of days.

Last Friday ( May 24, 2013) I was swimming in a swimming pool with friends. After a
long day in the sun having fun, I went up to my apartment, had a shower and took a
nap. The next day I woke up with what looked like an ingrown hair on my belly,
except that it hurt. I didn't much of it till the next day when my wife told me it was
swollen and red. I went to work then to the doctors. The doctor told me I had
Cellulitis and that I was to be admitted at once. I was admitted to the hospital that
night, put on IV meds (don't know what kind) and the next day they told me I had to
have surgery to remove the Necrotic tissue. They removed the tissue and I was on IV
meds every 6 hours for 3 days. After being released from the hospital they put me
on Trimethoprim (160) - Sulfamethoxazole (800) every 12 hours for 2 days. I had to
go in for daily dressing changes and each day they told me it was getting better and

My dad who has end stage COPD recently cultured for MRSA in his lungs. He is
living at home and my mom is the caregiver. I would like to inform my mom about
the precautions she should take in caring for him. She does everything for him
such as cleaning respiratory equipment , bathing him, cleaning his dishes and
clothes/bed linens, emptying trash with klennex that he has spit in. With just
having COPD he coughs a lot! I would like to give her a list of things to do not
only to protect herself but so that dad doesn't get any more infections elsewhere .
It's been hard to find info re: lung MRSA so I'm grateful for any help you can give.

Xylitol TO WASH AWAY STAPH

10% solution of Xylitol with distilled water to clear the nose of bacteria. Xylitol washes
away both strep and staph. 20% solution of Xylitol with distilled water for the small
pimples. You might try it on the large boils I don't know if that works just know it
works on the small ones.
There is about 30 years of research on this sugar. Xlear.Inc has a nose spray with
xylitol in it and is the fastest selling item in health food stores for the year of 2004.
Please study the research.

I'am so frustrated!!!

In July I took my kids swimming. No big deal right....that morning I shaved my pubic area, like I always have. A few days after that, I had this rash all over, which turned into pimple like boils. I was so scared!! I went to my ob gyn, and he didn't think much of it. He just said it was a (razor burn) and it would go away. So I waited a couple more days..and it itched so much!! I called him back up and they referred me to another Dr. at this time..my boils had spread to my thighs, they hurt so much..he cultured my boils. Got a phone call a few days later it was MRSA! He prescribed bactrim and said it would cure them. I was taking it and got a bad yeast infection. But my boils never went away. I'am so upset that I can't get rid of my buttock, pubic and thigh MRSA. I'v read a few posts about tea tree oil, turmeric and garlic. I'v done them all...and nothing seems to help!!! I'am sorry but at this point I'am feed up and just want a miracle cure. I'am worried MRSA wil... read more

Low IgG and MRSA?

I recently had sinus surgery due to recurrent sinusitis and the cultures came back as MRSA. I was then referred to an ID MD who tx'd me with Septra DS and Rifampin, and ordered lab work which came back with low IgG and low IgG subsets. The ID doc thinks I have an immune problem. I have never had skin wounds or infections, but have been on a lot of antibiotics for resp and sinus infections. I have asthma as well, and it is exacerbated by sinus or lung infections. I am worried about working as I work with the frail/elderly. I am aware that a few of these people have had MRSA urine infections or wound infections. I am a little concerned about my spreading this around to other residents. The ENT seemed hesitant to allow me back to work, calling it "an ethical problem" but the ID says so many people are MRSA positive that it doesn't matter as long as I use precautions.
I was glad to find this forum, I also have had some of the effects like fatigue, achiness and did not attribute it to ... read more

Help me build an immune-strengthing plan

Hello everyone,

I am trying to work out an "affordable" immune-strengthening plan for my 22-year-old daughter, Jessica, who has been fighting MRSA for the last 2 1/2 years. Like many of you, she's tried just about everything I've researched online to naturally get rid of (or at least limit) the constant MRSA outbreaks.

Presently she is on Clindamycin after having a painful boil lanced a week ago. I also have her doing the garlic baths daily and probably will keep that up for another couple of weeks and then cut them down to every other day if we don't see any more outbreaks. I'd love to hear from others who have success with garlic baths as to how many you took at the beginning, for how long each bath (Jessica stays in there for an hour each day) and if you still do them regularly or just when you see a staph starting to appear.

There is so much information on this and other forums about what to take to build a strong immune system to help fight off MRSA outbreaks. My h... read more

My mom has just been diagnosed w/ MRSA-it is in the blood stream. It started w/ pea sized areas on her body. These would come and go on different areas of her body. The most recent is a boil-like abscess under her arm that has caused swelling larger than an egg. Her temp was 101.3. This has now been lanced and has reduced in size about 1/2. The culture indicated it is MRSA and resistant to all drugs other than bactrim (sulfa). It is unknown how she contacted this. She has not been hospitalized before or after. I am dressing the wound. Should I be concerned about injesting or contacting MRSA. How long before my 3-yr old granddaughter can be around my mom? The incision is hearling, there is no elev. temp and the medicine appears to be working. I know nothing about this type of infection. Please inform me of the concerns I should hve for my mother's health and others contacting it. She is 90 years of age and in relative good health other than spinalstenosis.
