MRSA in the bronchial tubes

Hey. I am writing in reference to my father. He has stage 4 COPD and underwent a bronchoscopy two weeks ago for Several infections in the Bronchial tubes. He would be on antibiotics for two weeks and within one week of being off he would be sick again with high fevers and severe SOB. Doctor confirmed today that his lab reports from the bronchoscopy showed MRSA. What could be done to treat this, if anything, with him already in stage 4 COPD?

Help with Impetigo?

Hello, I've had impetigo for several months now. The first three times,
both of my cheeks were infected. My doctor prescribed Mupirocin and it
quickly went away. Now, it is no longer a problem. However, it had
recently spread to the area between my upper lip and my nose. I do not
have any antibiotics on hand, so I have been applying petroleum jelly
on the site for 2 days so far. Is petroleum jelly a smart decision?
What can I do to suppress it? Thanks in advance

I'm so glad I found this forum; I've been doing to a of reading and researching;
my daughter has a compromised immune systems with a dx MBL2 deficiency and
still more testing underway; she has had meningitis , pneumonia, and constant
lymphnode and sinus infections ; after continuous sickness we got a new EnT
who did a culture and found cA-MRSA; she still has it after 3 weeks of clinda and
we are now on a nasal nebulizer tx of nasal clinda however I can see her infection
coming back due to her symptoms and behavior and was advised we are looking
at a PICC line next. I want to ask/demand they do a blood test to check for MRSA
In Her blood is there a specific name for this? I also am curious if I should
request a chest xray. She has no lesions but has the active sinus infection she
cannot see to recover from; we have started bleach baths, new daily
bedding/linens and bactroban ointment in the nose and other suggestions would
be appreciated I am very concerned as... read more

MRSA and teaching

I retired from teaching nearly 4 years ago due to disability - mental (
depression and anxiety) and physical (ultimately 4 back surgeries).
About 5 years ago, while I was still working, I had a boil lanced and
tested positive for MRSA. Should I inform the school, in the case that
they've had outbreaks? Do I have a right to see student medical records
to find out if perhaps I contracted it at work? I'll say that my
retirement was less than pleasant, and I really have no desire to see
any of those people. But you can take the teacher out of the school,
but not the school out of the teacher. I feel a sense of responsibility
toward my former students. And no, I'm not looking for a legal
scapegoat to sue anyone. But if I caught it there, I want to know.

Antibiotic infused cement spacer questions

I had my hip replaced on 11/1/13 and when the staples came out drainage and
fever started. On 11/17/13 the surgeon went in again and replaced the ball and
socket liner and washed out the wound. Samples taken from the hip were
positive for MRSA. Vanco by IV resulted in massive hives so switched to
adaptomicin. PICC line and home with daily IVs and rifampin for 6 weeks. PICC
line out 12/31/13. Infection back along with fever so entire artificial hip removed
on 1/27/14 and a cement spacer infused with antibiotic put in. Can anyone who
has been through this tell me their experience with the spacer? The pain is so
much worse this time around and I am only minimimal weight bearing. After a
week home I started having pain in calf and ultrasound confirmed blood clot
along femoral vein so now stressing about a clot breaking off. This whole
experience has been awful. I went in healthy with the exception of a terribly
painful hip and thought I would be out 4-6... read more

When to use Antibiotics?

Hello. I am new here. I had a boil appear on my hairline over the
weekend. On wednesday I went to the dr. and had it lanced. I was not
very aggressive in draining it and ended back at the dr friday, where
he drained it more. It was cultured wednesday and came back friday
positive for mrsa. The first dr. didn't put me on an antibiotic saying
that this will heal with or without an antibiotic. The dr. on friday
prescribed clindamycin 900 mg per day. The possible side effects
scared me from taking it. I called and asked him to call in something
else less scary! He called in cipro 1000 mg per day. I still haven't
begun to take them. I am just unsure if it is worth the risks? Is it
ever ok to focus on healing the wound alone without antibiotics?

MRSA garlic baths, "die off" and pH

I have been battling MRSA for awhile and I have begun natural treatment. I saw in previous forums about MRSA's affect on the body's pH being that it pumps a lot of lactic acid into the bloodstream. I have a question regarding the effect of garlic baths. I begun taking garlic baths for more than an hour, I have noticed improvement in how I feel, but I have also noticed that my urine pH has become extremely acidic when I test even though I eat a very alkaline diet. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Could the fact that my urine becoming more acidic from garlic baths and other treatment indicate a dying off of the MRSA and being cleansed from my system? My infection has been severe so I'm sure that it will take a long and committed approach to healing but I just want to make sure that I'm on the right track as my research indicates that MRSA has a tough time surviving in an acidic environment, yet my urine has become more and more acidic with treatment even though I've... read more

MRSA symptoms

Hello all.
My husband acquired MRSA after surgery on his back. He ended up having 3 surgeries to clean the infection out, was on IV antibiotics for most of the remainder of his 5 week stay in the hospital. He came home with a wound vac in his back, as they couldn't close the wound. It did finally close 10 months after surgery. I am wondering what symptoms, other than sores, if any could indicate that MRSA is active? We have been told that it never goes away, but lies dormant. Is this true? My husband is partially paralyzed from surgery, and has lost all control of bladder and bowel. He is now suffering from horrible hot flashes, sweats, and dizziness. We aren't sure what to make of it, and as no other doctors will touch him, he is only treating with our family physician. He was getting sores on his legs that were like blisters, they'd pop, ooze for several days, then scab over. They leave bad scars. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

First MRSA, after 7 days of Bactrim, a scab

Hi there, I developed a supposed MRSA outbreak on the side of my nose
last week. Was given a generic Bactrim prescription for 7 days. The
infection seemed to stay the same or was even worse until about day 4
or 5. After day 4 or 5 the pain, redness and swelling became much less
but a scab developed. Now, on day 7, the scab is nasty looking, and
very dark (perhaps trapped blood?). Relatively pain-free but the skin
is numb. There is only a tiny bit of redness around the scab now.

My concern is that this infection could flare up again (no more
Bactrim). I am worried there is residual fluid somewhere in there as I
never "lanced" anything. There were a few tiny "white heads" which I
popped; only a small amount of puss came out. Nothing major. I
honestly didn't want to mess with the healing process.

Some of my concern is vanity-based, worried about the scarring on my
nose. I've heard the word "hole" thrown around which frightens me! But
obviously I'm concer... read more

Hi, here is my story and if you can give advice please do.

IN early June maybe the end of May of 2013 I had a small bump on my shin. I wasnt all that worried because I thought it was a mosqito bite even though I wear pants all the time I figured it was possible since just a week before I pulled a tick from behind my knee. with no clue how it was possible to have gotten there (b/c I always wear pants). Well in a couple weeks the bump got bigger. By the end of July it was really nasty about the size of a dome and reddis and oozzing. I went to the ER towards the end of July because I had developed severe itching all over my body and wasnt sure if it was connected but it was driving me insane I had scratched so much I had red patches (and Im black) clearly visible.

The doctor ran no test and gave me no medications for the bump they did give me some medication for the itching though (which did not work). Eventually the itch went away for the most part. The bump got worse if covere... read more

Vaginal Yeast Infection

I think I need Bob's help right now. I've had a very nasty yeast infection for 2 months now. I recently used Monistat 1 Day, Used in 2 separate days then the oral medication then two days later another dose of the oral med. Came back with a vengence. Used Monistat again and got on the AZO for yeast. Oh, I've used vinigar douches also. Last night I used a probiotic capsule. I can't figure out how to get plain yogurt in the right place! Now I'm thinking of garlic. Do I crush it and put it in water, then douche? Or do I put a clove of garlic inside me? I would think that would be too strong? Any suggestions from anyone is helpful.

My girlfriend contracted mrsa from me when I had a misdiagnosed cellulitis on
my legs...

It has effectively spread to many different places on our bodies and so I have
recently started taking turmeric collodial silver probiotics and plenty of other
vitamins said to have it

My girlfriends worst spot is on her face.. We've tried garlic, tea tree ointments,
pure tea tree oil, and milk of mAgnesia
Well many of these things help.. Nothing has stopped the continuous spread on
her face.

I'm beginning to think its her make up because she puts a lot of it on... Are there
any suggestions from females on how she can handle this breakout without
sacrificing make up completely.. She's already told me her make up is high
quality mineral stuff..

Are there other things we should be tryIng? Any procedures about her applying
makeup or washing her face that will prevent breakouts? Any help would be

My 11 year old daughter has been diagnosed with MRSA with the PVL
gene. I also had my 7 yr old son tested. They said his MRSA was in his
respiratory system and not his bloodstream like his sister's. Tons of
outbreaks and money spent(with ins. not paying for anything, we are
back to square 1. ID says there is nothing I can do for your kids. We
do bactroban in the nose, frequent bleach baths, more laundry than
most, gluten/dairy free diet, bleach and lysol everything, quit my job
to home school, etc. We have tried Manuka honey, which does help, but
is very costly. My daughter has the worst outbreak ever right now, the
MRSA is in her lymph nodes, her immune system is at 0 and she has
contacted bronchitis and walking pneumonia. Her body is rejecting the
antibiotics for the pneumonia and bronchitis. We are trying to get in
to see a new ID peds doc to try VANCO treatments.I am at my wits end.
After much research, I have learned that statistics are deadly with

I have MRSA but am much better then I was. I have questions but am having problems finding answers even from doctors. Does anyone have answer to these couple of questions?

How do you know when your well? Blood test???? I'm on vancomycin and have been told once the six week treatments are up and the symtoms are gone, your well.

At what point during "having" MRSA can you go back to having sex? I have heard the bacteria is on the skin and in the blood (further along cases) can it also be in sperm?

Has anyone heard or know of answers to these questions.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks

I've read that CBD, a compound found in marijuana kills MRSA. There are tons of
articles on this out there. I'm looking for anyone who knows more about this, because I
live very close to Washington, where marijuana is now legal. I've read that CBD on its
own is technically legal. It sounds like the best application may be topical (cream) right
on the MRSA wound. Lemme know!

After lancing

This is my first and hopefully only staph infection. Its on my glute ham tie in on
my left leg (right under butt cheeck where hamstring meets). I've been doing all
the natural remedies. I started the garlic baths 3 days ago, using manuka honey
for 2 days, drinking my magnesium and vitamin c, using hibiclens and colloidal
silver and tea tree oil.

I did have it lanced yesterday, but my Dr. Said it was so close to opening he didn't
have to make a big cut at all. After this lancing what do I do? It's still draing. Do
I continue the garlic baths? I've been using the mauka honey to dress the wound.
Im afraid to get in the actual shower with it still drainng. I do a sponge bath with
hibiclens so I can keep the wound covered until I'm ready to wash it. I've been
using tea tree oil in my nostrils for a week.

I have 2 babies. A 2 yr. old and a 7 month old and the last thing I want to do is
give it to them! Ive been washing them with hibiclens as well and ... read more

Simple Cure For MRSA on Skin

My family had MRSA on the skin that consisted of itchy red patches/bumps that would turn into a boil that oozed pus ect...I prayed and prayed for a cure as we battled it for months and it was VERY stressful. G-d answered my prayer, once when I was online researching cures I seen a website come up with a brief description saying jojoba oil inhibits growth of MRSA. It came and went very quickly when I tried to click on it. In fact I have never seen the site again. I had some jojoba oil on hand that I used for my hair. So I diluted with olive oil and put on my skin head to toe. The red patches/bumps that came up after this were really blotchy and not fully formed (they were weakened). I used a mix of 10 drops eucalyptus oil, 3-4 drops of oregano oil and a couple drops of tea tree oil directly on the blotchy bumps. They were gone with a matter of an hour or two. Sometimes even minutes. In fact I did the same method with on my 3 kids age 4,6 and 14 who also skin MRSA boils and our whole ... read more

Right now I'm just crying with some sort of relief that I'm not the only person who is living with this pain.

I've been living with MRSA since 2007. I was in labour in the hospital and it ascended and got in my womb and the baby was dying. I had an emergency c section and bubby spent time in the NICU on an IV of antibiotics, and then years with unexplained high temperatures and not thriving.

I spent the next three months in and out of hospital: in because the admitting physicians would all panic because the wound was open and losing cups of puss every day: out because the OB surgeon who performed the emergency c section said there was nothing wrong with me and to discharge me. There were loads of IV and oral antibiotics during this time which didn't entirely support that there was nothing wrong. I finally I found another doctor who would take on my case. He hospitalised me until the infection was under control.

I had a meeting with the hospital management a ye... read more
