Best time to get garlic - Sept

Many people tell about how hard it is to find non-irradiated garlic most of the time and this is certainly true.

August, September and October are the times when American-grown garlic is most available. Gilroy, CA grows a lot of conventionally-grown white Artichoke-type softneck garlic. These typically retail for $6 to $8 per pound and will grow almost anywhere, even on the Canadian border and all but the southernmost areas of the USA.

There are 10 basic kinds of garlic (Artichoke, Asiatic, Creole, Porcelain, 3 kinds of Purple Stripe, Rocambole, Silverskin and Turban) and hundreds of variations called cultivars and they all look and taste different and all of them grow in the USA. They are all effective in killing bacteria, some more effective than others, usually based on pungency.

Use Google creatively and you can find garlic growers all over the country.

In this country these kinds of garlics, known by most people as gourmet garlics, are grown by small scale commerci... read more

Recurring MRSA on 3 year old

I'm looking for ways to cut down on the number of infections my 3 year old daughter gets. She's getting an abscess about every 2 months. This might get long but I want to give as many details as possible.

She first showed up with what looked like a spider bite on her pelvis Sept 2010, just shy of 3 years old. After a few days we took her in to ped, they lanced it and cultured. Ped said sand (we had been on vacation) might have gotten in her bathing suit, causing a small scratch for bacteria to get in. She was put on sulfa and topical Altabax (samples that I have since run out of), and between that and warm soaks the abscess went away. In Nov she got another small one on her abdomen (more like a pimple than abscess), but I was able to treat it at home with warm soaks and Altabax.

In Jan 2011 she turned up with a boil on her chin, and a larger one on her thigh. Lanced the thigh one, cultured, and prescribed clindamycin. I insisted on seeing an ID doc, so we went to Child... read more

MRSA Facts

MRSA death rate in the U.S. is 12% higher than AIDS.
U.S. funding for MRSA is only a fraction of 1% of the funding allocated for AIDS research, and no one is making a quilt for us.
80% of all MRSA infections are acquired from a health care facility.
In the 1950's MRSA was mostly a senior citizen affliction, infecting residence of nursing homes. It has traveled from the nursing homes to the hospitals and clinics. It is now in the school systems.
If you have MRSA, you most likely caught it from a health care provider. If you know where you caught it, take legal action. I caught MRSA from the VA, so there's no legal action for me.

If enough people will take their case to court, the establishment may get serious about finding effective treatment.

is surgery "safe" after Mrsa infection?

I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this...About 2 years ago, I had a MRSA infection that originated inside my nose, and the infection/boils later traveled to 3 other areas on my body. I was treated with antibiotics and ointment, which seems to have "cured" me- I have not had any more outbreaks in the last 2 years and actually forgot about it completely until a week ago when I scheduled surgery. I am having nose surgery (not for cosmetic purposes) next month and am so scared that this could trigger another outbreak since they are operating in the exact area where it all originated. I checked with my doctor already, and seems very nonchalant about it. After 2 years of no reoccurences, am I really cured? is this something I should be nervous about? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello! I found this forum when I was searching for MRSA meningitis, but I 'm not from USA/Canada. Excuse my poor English. My 2 year old daughter recovered from MRSA meningitis and empyema a month ago, and I wonder if there is anyone else here with this experience? The doctors didn't know about this and my daughter was the first with this diagnosis.

If so, please let me know. :)

I'm 17 years old and was diagnosed with MRSA
on Wednesday. It started as a small pin-
prick sized cut from shaving (bikini-line)
and over the course of about two or three
weeks continued to grow into a large, open,
pusy, bloody wound. After a couple doctor
visits and antibiotics, I got the abscess
drained two days ago. I was told I should
get immediate pain relief, but it didn't get
better. The pain actually got worse, so I
went back yesterday. The doctor took off the
bandage and unpacked the wound and said it
looked much better than before, and that's
great and all, but I still am in a lot of
pain. I've had a nearby lymph node that has
been very swollen and tender as well. The
actual wound is feeling less painful, but
it's the lymph node that is really hurting
me now. It hurts to move, walk, or really do
anything. Even laughing or flexing stomach
muscles hurts. I've been nauseous the past
few days and I've actually been throwing up

2.5 years ago I came down with Mrsa and cellulitis in my arm. It took months to
recover, severe fatigue continued. A few months later, infection re-appeared in
another site. 5 mos later severe fatigue, memory loss, joint pain and severe
gastro problems crippled me. My body started attacking all foods as allergens. I
lost 50+ lbs and couldn't walk. I was diagnosed with celiac disease and a neuro
endocrine tumor in my pancreas. Before surgery they did give me antibiotics to
help fight off a recurrence of mrsa infection during surgery.. This was after I
insisted. After surgery I slowly recovered to an extent on a gluten free diet, until
in started to spiral again. Fatigue, dizziness, bone Paine, brain shuttering, odd
episodes of weakness and neurological disconnect lasting 4 hrs and left
exhausted for days or weeks. Still living with my bed on blocks, 80 mg of

MRSA - Tendon and Arthritus issues?

Hi All, I am new to this forum and have been reading through several of the topics. I got MRSA from a knee surgery back in 2007 and again recently in my throat. Through reading this forum it seems that a couple of standard issues are compromised immune system and fatigue. I have had a couple other issues but not sure they are related to MRSA or maybe the vanco antibiodics. First tendon issues... I had one in my shoulder actually tear all the way through and both ends were frayed. It required surgery to cut and reattch to my bone. Then the tendons in my hips just burn severly sometimes. The other thing is arthritis. I never had it before then suddenly I have it in both knees, my back and neck and other joints that have had some previous trauma. I'm 50 years old, but it just seems like it happend so suddenly that not sure it's just age related. Has anyone else had issues with tendons or arthrits?

This may be a little off the cuff, but maybe not. My 7 year old daughter had/has MRSA on her skin, community acquired. Been having outbreaks for 4 months. Saw so many doctors I can't even tell you. Everyone, including the school nurse said it's ok to go back to school as long as she is treated with antibiotics and no open wounds. OK, all my moons were in line. Then, just the other day my 5 yr old son gets a boil just like hers, waiting for lab results, out of school for a few days. And tonight, my 4 yr old son has one on his leg. When my daughter got this I cleaned, disinfected, did everything that I thought I should do to prevent it from running amuck in our house of 5 but I failed. There in lies my guilty conscience...am I exposing other kids and at what point am I not?

Should I see a pediatric infectious disease specialist? I have the number already programed in my phone. Someone just please give me the go ahead.

hi,

so i was diagnosed with systemic mrsa (mrsa in the bloodstream/system) almost 4 and a half years ago. ive been very sick since with internal symptoms. ive been violently sick and i also had the skin mrsa symptoms including the boils , infected cysts and rashes all over. my doctor told me some of the boils looked like cigarette burn marks and i didn't know why. they asked me if someone was burning me with cigarettes but i don't know anyone who smokes

but ive had the chills, the vomiting, diarea, shakyness,i was shaking like a parkinsons person the first 2 years and i had seizures and loss of levels of consciousness.

i think i suffered some type of brain damage from it because i cant think much anymore like how i used to. hard to explain but i noticed definite neurological changes.

i became delirous a bunch of times from the infection and i think it might have infected my brain because of other motor skill issue, muscle weakness, and psychosis.

another question i have... read more

I"m so glad that I found this forum. My daughter has suffered from CA-
MRSA infections for 3yrs now. We have been through numerous
hospitalizations and enough incision and drainages to make a person
sick. All of her infections have started from a random boil and not
from an open wound, which her pediatrition finds hard to believe. She
takes regular bleach baths as well as bathes in hibiclense and we are
still fighting this monster. We have been able to catch a few of them
early enough and been prescribed bactrim but as soon as she is off of
the antibiotics for about 4 weeks she ends up with a new abscess. At
first all of her infections were on the left side of her body and now
Since August they have migrated to the right side. We have been to an
infectious disease specialists at our state research school and
returned with no answers other than her immune system is great and
there is no explanation for her frequent abscesses. I'm lost for what

Losing hope...

I've been extremely anxious and depressed all day and feeling like my life is over.
I've been crying all day. I have an 11 year old and I don't want her to see me this
way. Im trying all that I can do to stay hopeful but it gets hard. I feel alone with
this. My MRSA wasnt bad until I went to the doctor a few days ago. The nurse
touched the infected area under my arm pit then when I got home that area got
really big and red and sore. I wonder if her touching it spurred it on? She didn't
wash her hands after touching me either and proceeded to write with her pen.
When I saw that I wanted to tell her she better was her hands... She should have
known better. I hope she washed her hands before seeing another patient...
I don't want to give this to anyone else. I'm becoming a germophobe. I don't want
my daughter to catch it... :( I'm just feeling sorry for myself and I need to snap out
of it. Sorry my post is all I've the place.

Hi,

So I have a MRSA skin infection. One day I just a mrsa boil inside my nose. The outside of my nose though got red and swelled up. For a while I had blood coming out of the nostril with the boil inside. That went away and the redness and swelling on the outside of my nose died down. However, after 3 weeks I still have the bump inside my nose and a dark redish purple spot on the outside of my nose. Has anyone ever had something like this? Do you know if it will go away or if I have to do something about it? Thanks!

I posted before as StillnHope but this past week was a nightmare for me. I was
crying constantly and very anxious. I cried out to God and prayed and I believe he
is helping to heal me and get this under control. I woke up today feeling much
better. I went and bought some hibiclens and Dial Gold. I've been washing
constantly and keeping sanitary. I've been taking probiotics. I still plan to get
some non irradiated garlic and will work on that next. I just feel that we need to
keep praying about this because Lord Jesus is the master healer and we need to
have more faith in Him to help get this under control and out of our lives. I pray
for all of you and I pray for a cure ASAP.

I have changed the topic. Thank you for your quick response to my prev
questions in the "MRSA in my lungs" forum. However, I really need some
answers from anyone who has reoccurring MRSA and that has tried building up
immune system, eating properly, daily exercise which has now been decreased
due to extreme fatigue, and last but not least, having all the correct drs on board.
Meaning, ID, Colorectal & GI of whi h none know what else to do other than the
culture, Bloodwork, and CT all to which came back negative. I need to know if
when having a culture, does the swab have to hit the bottom of the wound to
receive an accurate result or is it ok that they just culture the middle? Also, really
need to know how does an post surgical OPEN wound in the abdomen get larger
in Width NOT depth. The opening literally grew larger in width overnight. How
does that happen? ID drs don't know neither does wound care nurses, which I
have been seeing on a weekly basis. These d... read more

Hi everyone,
I was recently diagnosed with MRSA, but I'm sure I had it for years.
I'll start with a quick history. I had impetigo when I was about 9. I was treated for
that. Then when I was 15 I had staph infection and was treated for it, then it
cleared up. Then when I was around 17 I started to get this rash which I stupidly
mistook for just body acne. One flared up but then went away and I didn't get
treated for it. Now that I'm 31, this year I started to get these horrible boils in
underarms. Then it spread to areas that no female wants. I was ignorant about
MRSA and Staph etc and I thought maybe it was an STD (even though I haven't
had sexual intercourse in over 3 years) but I just really had no other idea. I didn't
think Staph could appear in Elvis regions, but the underarm really through me for
a loop. I went to the doctor and she diagnosed me with Staph again. She
prescribed me Bactrim which helped but it didn't clear it all the way. It came back
