Active MRSA in nose what's next?

Been sick for 3 months with nose sores, sore throat, coughing, elbow joint aches, chest ache. First time I went to urgent care, they didn't test. Second time the swabbed and MRSA is in my nose.

They prescribed 10 days of IC SULFAMETHOXAZOLE-TEMP DS tablets twice a day. Nothing else.

They told me once I am done taking the pills, I will be all set, no need to return for another test or anything else.

Also said it was fine to be at work.

With everything I have read the entire day today on MRSA, I find this lacking. I see that Mupirocin ointment is concurrently prescribed for inside the nose on the sores.

I also see people taking to disinfecting all the bedding, towels, and not sure what else.

Any thoughts?

Boils with negative culture

Hi all - glad I found this site. I developed what I thought was a bug bite last
Thursday. Saturday it was filled with pus and painful. Monday, drained it myself (I
know, not supposed to do that but I didn't realize at the time) and Tuesday
morning, woke up with two more small whitehead pimples that never got larger.
Tuesday, derm took both a viral and bacterial culture, put me on both antiviral and
doxy along with mupirocin and told me to call back Friday for culture results. Two
more white head pimples popped up between then and today (Friday). The boil
got less and less painful and didn't get very large - still looked like a bug bite. The
four additional bumps were never painful. Well today, both cultures came back
negative. Nurse said maybe I had a reaction to something. The boil has all but
stopped being painful and all of the pimples are drained. I thought for sure this
was staph. Anyone has any insight into what is going on?

My Dad has recently had two surgerys for cancerous tumours in his leg.The first surgery required a large skin graft which didn't fully take and was left to heal on it's own. This open wound was healing very fast with dillegent care and attention with daily dressing changes by my Dad himself and also home care nurses checking it once a week. Then a second tumour was found and was removed a.s.a.p due to the aggressive nature of the cancer altho the first wound has not completely healed over. Now he has MRSA in that wound and possibly in his bloodstream. He has been recieving Vanomyacin intravenously for the 5 days that he has been hospitalized, but now they are going to discharge him due to "lack of beds".Now,the infectious diseases doctors have told him that he will have to go to a clinic daily to continue his intravenous antibiotics and that the prescription will cost him approx' $800.00 for 2 weeks.Never mind that he can barely walk and lives 3hrs away from any family on his own,he also... read more

MRSA IN EAR
Started by Peg Posted: August 1, 2014 at 22:17

Have had MRSA in my left hear since a mastoid surgery 7 years ago. They put tubes in both ears at the time of the surgery. The one in the left ear did not fall out so it was removed with the advice that removing the tube would help clear up the MRSA. That was 2 years ago. I am still positive for MRSA and been on oral and drops. ENT says he can not do any more until I have gone 6 mo's w/o infection. longest I go is 2 months between infections. It's in my middle ear and I have a hole in my ear drum that needs closing if we can clear the infection. Should I see an infectious disease doctor?

You must treat 24 hours a day.

What I have found so far is that any therapy is going to lose its
punch in a number of hours due to the substance being metabolized
(half life) and that I can tell by when the itching restarts exactly
when I reach that point. So for example Im using monolaurin now and I
need to take it every four hours because 900 mg of it loses its punch
shortly after that. If I dont wait too long I lose all the ground I
gained in the four hours. However if what you are using, doing , is
strong enough, it can drive the MRSA down so you dont have to treat
24 hours a day because the improvement of part time treatment is more
than the gain when not treating. So far, only topical therapy packs
that type of punch, namely topical oregano oil which crushes half
the lesion in like 2 hours and the same for a very thick bee propolis
obtained from The Pollen Man in Portland (internet) who gets it from
a tree near the arctic circle, so he says. The problem with topical I

Since the skin must be broken in some way for MRSA or non MRSA staph
to cause an infection, so I read,
then why is it so easy to then spread that infection to even fifty
more skin sites where there is no broken skin as it did in my case It
cannot be due to colonization because we are probably exposed to
staph every day, and didnt I read that 40 percent of all people
already have it on their skin? Does contracting a MRSA infection do
something to the immune system to make it less able to from then on
fight MRSA? Or what?

It is my consistent observation that if my skin where the MRSA is is
itching, the MRSA is spreading, and if its not itching, the therapy Im
using in the moment is working to either improve it or at least cause
no spreading. And the speed of spreading is equal to the degree of my
itching.

Study by Georgetown Professor HG or Harry Preuss in test tube and mice
shows a fat in mothers milk, monolaurin plus oregano oil were
significantly more effective against MRSA than the best antibiotic,
vancomycin, and either alone was its equal, both available in health
food stores or amazon etc. Steve

Lemongrass

I have assumed before reading about garlic recently that lemongrass
would be the best cure for Mrsa due to its top ranked in a study of 85
essential oils ability to inhibit staphyloxanthin, and to destroy the
aready existing ones, those very protective yellow pigments in one's
staph that defeat our immune attacks but very few people have tried it
and none that I can find tried it by itself. Has anyone tried it? Its
only ten dollars. Most of my lesions are dotted with what appear to be
yellowish white islands of what I assume are staphyloxanthins, do you
see those in your staph lesions?

Study of community MRSA

This study Community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus
aureus immune evasion and virulence concludes that the MRSA contacted
in the community rather than a hospital etc, affects healthy people,
(average age 23), is the most lethal, that the reason is a virulence
enhancing factor called phenol-soluble modulin peptide type alpha
which causes the destruction of our main immune defense against
bacterial infection, neutrophils. So in this toughest of all strains,
It further states that studies indicate that MRSA per se (the fact
that a strain is meth resistant ) does not make it more virulent than
non MRSA, rather it is this factor that evidently is the culprit for
virtually impossible to eradicate staph or deadly staph, CA-MRSA in
an otherwise healthy person. Maybe there is a natural remedy out
there that can do this factor in. Steve Lord

Stages of MSRA

I have had MSRA three times. Both my knee caps and most recently on my lips. I am
not a doctor but I can tell you what I believe the four stages are and how to treat
them. GOOD LUCK.

Stage one. (Pimple/Rash stage)
For me the onset of a MRSA attack begins with a painful pimple feeling and is
followed by a rash. For some this is described as a bite feeling. The important thing
to note is that pimples should not hurt as if a nerve is affected immediately following
the formation of a pimple.

Treatment Stage 1.
Do not pick at the site or touch the site no matter what the pain is. Wash the area.
IMMEDIATELY go to the doctor and explain your having another attack and begin
antibiotics.

Stage 2 (Painful Puss Stage)
MRSA is like a hard and soft ball of puss just under your skin. The pain during this
stage is awful. Your brain is saying to you, " just pop the sucker and you'll feel
better." DO NOT TOUCH IT. You must wait this stage out.

Does MRSA cause tooth decay?

I was diagnosed with MRSA two years ago and my teeth are falling out. Does vancomycin help the teeth to become stronger? I know tetracyclines are bad for teeth. Sometimes these infections come from bad teeth (like endocarditis). Also should I rinse my mouth with chlorhexidine and put mupicioron in my food? Thanks in advance

Grandmother with MRSA - what to do?

Hello,

My mother-in-law had surgery four years ago. We knew that she was not properly healing and that she was seeing doctors over the years about it. In the fall, the doctors finally told her that she had MRSA. She was put on vancomycin for 6 weeks, IV treatment.

We need advice. We have a two year old daughter. We live 9 hours away from the grandparents. Normally, they stay in our house or we stay in their house. Over the last few years, we have had 3-4 visits each year. Numerous people have stayed at their house over the years and no one has caught anything. Her husband was tested for MRSA nasally and it came back negative.

Their ID doctor insists that MRSA cannot be spread except for through open wounds. My in-laws have done very little research on their own into MRSA and take their doctor's word as truth. Everyone else in the family takes their doctor's word as truth and think that we are being ridiculous in our concerns.

After doing much research online, ... read more

I was admitted to the hospital on March 13th
for MRSA after back surgery. The following
week I had surgery to remove the infection.
Thought I was thru with IV antibiotics but
when I went back to the doc this past Monday
he said one of my blood work levels, sorry
forgot which one, was elevated and he wasn't
comfortable with stopping them. My lower back
pain is getting worse and worse. I have a MRI
ordered for Monday. The pain however is
getting worse. No fever. Been sick today
throwing up and nauseated. Someone told me I
could have a cyst of mrsa growing. Is that
possible? I called my doctor today, but he
doesn't seem concerned about me being sick or
my pain elevated. Pain meds aren't even
touching my pain! Help!!!

Wikipedia re allicin from garlic

A screening of allicin against 30 strains of MRSA found high level of
antimicrobial activity, including against strains that are resistant
to other chemical agents.[29] Of the strains tested, 88% had minimum
inhibitory concentrations for allicin liquids of 16 mg/L, and all
strains were inhibited at 32 mg/L. Furthermore, 88% of clinical
isolates had minimum bactericidal concentrations of 128 mg/L, and all
were killed at 256 mg/L. Of these strains, 82% showed intermediate or
full resistance to mupirocin. This same study examined use of an
aqueous cream of allicin, and found it somewhat less effective than
allicin liquid. At 500 mg/L, however, the cream was still active
against all the organisms tested—which compares well with the 20 g/L
mupirocin currently used for topical application.[29]

A water-based formulation of purified allicin was found to be more
chemically stable than other preparations of garlic extracts.[29]

I just began a lesbian sexual relationship. We both have MRSA with no recent outbreaks. Mine started in a peg tube in 2002 and hers started in her leg in 2013. Will it be safe for us to have oral sex using all the precautions?

Thank you for your response to this inquiry.

MRSA Challenges

I've suffered with mrsa for over 6 years. I was a very sickly child with staph
infections so I've been a carrier my entire life. In January of 2011 I had to
undergo a total knee replacement and my recovery was extended due to yet
another mrsa infection. The doctors had to put a picc line in my arm for self
administered antibiotics. The most difficult part is that I've given the mrsa
infection to two women Ive dated...in both situations they suffered scars on their
legs which will be there for life. One was very angry and the other was more
understanding, but I know I'm a carrier and there's no way of knowing when it
will flare up again. The infectious disease specialist told me I will never be
cured. The mrsa is on my skin and in my blood. I hope someday a cure can be
found.
