Sorry I haven't posted for a while, but in brevity, I have been a victim of MRSA and done extensive research in my jobs as a medical research reporter, following working as the manager of a Wholistic Medicine Clinic. I feel its important to let people know what they can do to not just treat it, but prevent it from taking over our lives!

If anyone is interested and who may be in South Florida,

I am facilitating a free workshop with a Naturopathic physician in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida at Nutritian Smart on Northlake Blvd, on June 1st at 7pm. I am trying to get people aware of their immune systems, and that strengthening your own body's abilities to fight this Superbug to prevent MRSA, is better than any course of antibiotics known to man. The body isa an amazing machine, given the right fuel...

We are gonna fight this bug, and all others and get our lives back! I am officially MRSA FREE for almost a year after 2 occurances back to back! After MRSA, you are most vu... read more

Hi, would like to start a new topic for anyone dealing with this issue in the US. I cannot find anything similar for those of us on the other side of the ocean. The descriptions of your hospitals sound appalling - at least we don't have visibly filthy rooms - but we certainly have a lot of invisible filth. My father contracted MRSA during a hospital stay and passed away in December 2003. I was given such insufficient info on MRSA that I began my own search. Our government agencies, etc. don't seem to give much info. Most of the info I've found on the internet has come from the UK so at least you are talking about it in the media and in citizen groups. My best to all of you from Florida.

I lost my only 16 year old daughter due of Hospital infection after having a laparatomy. For doctors and hospital managements it's just percentage - for me and my husband its devastation of out lives visit After all that suffering which she went through and which we still bear each moment as memories haunt, she died. What a dreadful way to loose a child the pain we still have is unbearable. Hope responsible people will do their utmost so that no one ever passes through this ordeal.

Dear people and fellow MRSA sufferers:

I have had two occurances of MRSA since May '05. IV drugs like Vancomycin and Cubicin seem to be the only answer to curing it. Fortunately, I work in a Wholistic Medicine Clinic where we have both MD's and Oriental MD's on staff. Acupuncture, herbs, vitamins and antioxidants! You must keep your body as alkaline as possible to prevent disease and keep your immune system functioning properly. I have had no reoccurances since I began maintenance treatments with my own clinic in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The bottom line is to prevent it! You have to go through whatever medical protocol you have to if you are infected, but you must remember when its all over that you will be permanently colonized with it! My second occurance came from a mosquito bite! Know as much as you can about it so that you can prevent another occurance, and do everything you can to boost your immune system. It takes some time to do that because the IV drugs wipe out your... read more

dad has MRSA and I'm his caregiver

I am scared to death, I take care of my dad 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I get away from him one hour a month. (Literally) I have been taking care of him for 4 years. He has been through throat cancer, radiation and chemotherapy, he has had his thoracic duct accidentally cut, an allergic reaction for 11 hours without a nurse checking on him, a huge hole in his neck, his carotid artery ruptured, and now he has been in the hospital twice in one month plus three times in the ER. This last hospital stay we were told he had MSRA and he also has an air passage the size of a straw, he has had a feeding tube and a trach. I've been taking care of all this for 4 years. Suctioning the mucus out of his lungs, baths, meds., ordering supplies, ordering prescription refills, taking care of his bills, his house. And I'm scared to death that I have this MRSA and I can't go to a hospital. He won't let me leave him alone. I was told he was not going to make it through this because of his ... read more

I was diagnosed with mrsa 2 months ago, but probably had it for 5 months. I was wondering if anyone else is having symptoms other than the skin infections. I am curious because since I have had this I am always tired, stomach cramps, short of breath, and anxious.

Mother has MRSA

About 5 weeks ago my mother was hospitalized and disagnoised with Influenza and severe Pneumonia. About 2 weeks after being admitted to the ICU, they told me she had MRSA and had to be on precautions. They had her on Zyvox for 2-3 weeks and she got released from the hospital 04/26/06. What I'm wondering is if the MRSA can actually be gone? In the hospital they confused me alot, first saying that she would never be able to get rid of it, then saying that wit the right meds she could get rid of it. I'm guessing they would not let her out of the hospital if she was still contagious, But who knows. I'm just worried about catching it myself...Any thoughts would be sincerely welcomed. Please email me

Thanks so much,

Hello. My nephew, (brothers youngest son) is 15 years old. On Saturday April 22,2006, he was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. Please bear with me as I am having some amouint of difficulty getting detailed info as he lives in Cal, and I am in texas. My brother and his wife are separated, and the nephew has been living with his mom. The way she explained the situation to my brother when she called to tell him they were going by ambulance to the hospital was that he had felt sick for about 3 days last week. Then it went from just feeling sick, to vomiting and diarrhea, then the next day he started having episodes of confusion, and then finally on saturday his symptoms had prgressed to the point that he was barely able to breath and was unanble to respond coherently to questions. At this point his mother finally got worried and called ems. On the way to the hospital he was intubated because the paramedics could hear zero air exchance on one side, and lots of "gurgling" on the other... read more

While in the hospital July of last year,I was bit by what the DR.claimed to be a brown recluse spider! This "bite"quickly turned into MRSA!The next thing I know, I was being wheeled off to the opererating room!I had on my outer right thigh a "hole" for lack of a better word, bigger around than a silver dollar and about 3" deep! They scraped it and packed it! I layed in the hospital for 3 weeks, receiving introvenious vancomycin twice daily! Then I was transferred to a nursing facility where I spent another week. The pain was excrutiting at first and now I have nerve damage to my left ear which a specialist says cannot be helped by a hearing aid! He cannot tell me for sure if it was the infection,or the antibiotics that may have caused this! Sound familiar to anyone? Please let me know! Thanks Murdock!

MRSA in the lungs

My mom has MRSA in her lungs and it keeps returning.

Most recently, her pulmonary doctor gave her a prescription for Xyvox for 3 weeks and the MRSA appeared to go away. But, the medicine killed the good and bad bacteria in her colon and she has been hospitalized with C-dificil in her colon. This has been a very bad experience for her as well. She hasn't been able to keep anything down for 5 days. We've got to get her cured of the dificil now as well as the MRSA!

The doctors have put her on Flager by mouth and are giving her Vanconycin HCL 1000mg through an IV and Vanconycin 250 mg two times a day.

They did another sputum test and the MRSA has returned only a couple of weeks after taking the Xyvox.

I was wondering if you are familiar with any of these medicines or if your family members that have MRSA have experienced any of the symptons I've explained. Does anyone know how to get rid of MRSA?

Thank you for your help!

MRSA in sputum

My husband tested positive for MRSA in his sputum on Wednesday, after being in hospital for 8 days. Also has pseudomonas. Has asthma, bronchiectasis. Was in hospital for the asthma. They started Vancomycin and Tiazamin (or something like that) on Wednesday night. He's in isolation. His GP says it's "not medically dangerous and is being treated" but reading some stuff makes me afraid. Is it really not dangerous if it's in his sputum, therefore lungs? Any advice? Questions I should ask or things I should insist on? BTW, he's 37 years old. Thanks.

From Sunday to Death in one week

Good Day! My name is Andrea and I live in Kansas. In September 2005, I went to Oklahoma City for a 3 week stay at a hotel to attend Truck Driving school. On Sunday, September 25, I woke up to a small, but painful bump above my outer labias. Since it was summer and shaving is common for swimming, I thought it was just a pimple from that. My husband, who is a truck driver, had a large boil on his back two weeks previous that was about the size of a nickle advised me to get it draining immediately! I tried. Oh my God it was so painful! Needless to say, I could barley stand to apply any pressure on the area. It continued to swell for two days, increasing in pain and size. I was stuborn and managed the pain since I was to take my driving test on Thursday for my CDL. By Wednesday, I literally could barely walk from swelling and pain. My roommate/ classmate had worked in nursing homes before and offered to "take a look". She was horrified and told me to get to a doctor- someho... read more

I just was told over the weekend that my family has MRSA. I did not know what that meant nor did the E.R Doctor who told me explain it. The way he was talking made me feel like he was talking about something simple like the common cold. I came home that night and started researching it. OMG. I cannot believe this. If you started getting boils within a week of having surgery, is that were you contracted this. My husband had surgery and within a week he had boils and so did my 2 year old. A week after that I broke out under my arm pit. We went to the doctor and they sent us home with bactrim. It did not clear it up. We went back a week after that and they lanced the boils and sent us home with more bactrim. It cleared up ...for the week. The following week we got more. We went back in they lanced them and this time they did a culture. They sent us home with another script for bactrim. A few days later we got a call. The Cultures were positive MRSA. They did not give us any more inform... read more

Hi all, I have posted many times on this forum. I have been fighting my battle for a year now(the first surgury was on 4-7-05.) And I was wondering if any of you have noticed any effected on your hearing( like their constantly plugged up like after flying) or your sense of smell. I have really noticed that I can't pick up smells like I use to and of course it had effected my taste because of it. I don't know whether to blame it on all the IV Vanc I have been on (probably 24 weeks in the past year) or if its because of the MRSA itself. Just curious to find out if anyone else has noticed these side effects also.

hey there all..i saw my doc today...he did confirm my lab results showed mrsa, but also said it showes regular staph that possible??he said besides the culture of the infection,he said it is also showing in my blood work, not sure what that means....he said my incision is not healing like he though, and i see him again next week, and if no better,he said hes sending me to another wounnd care specialist....he said it may be possible for him to have to lance and drain the inside of my stomach several more times..i was hoping all the surgeries were over for me!!he has kept me on the 2000 mg of keeflex a day,and now added levaquin till i see the id regular staph the same as mrsa, just not as antibitioc resistant..he talked about some gram-positives and gram negatives, and i have no clue what that ment at all....with the staph showing in my blood work, does that mean its in my blood,or just a indicator that its somewhere on my body...he also said he could see some pockets of ab... read more
